[ CLOSED ] sailing on a ship in a bottle
Who: Red & Zagreus
When: July
Where: Solvunn, Tertiary Settlement
What: July Quest: fishing amongst Leviathans
Warnings: n/a
It's Red's first trip to another one of the settlements in the Solvunn Commune, and he can't say he isn't curious. These tales of sea monsters intrigue him, and if he can lend a helping hand to repay the community, he's more than willing. Some of them may have chosen to pull people from their homes and bring them here, but any lingering grudge Red might have against those leaders, he's well aware the vast majority of folk are just trying to live their lives. He can't begrudge them that.
Luckily for him, he learns that Zagreus intends to venture out into the waters as well, and happily attaches himself to a familiar face. During the trip out on the boat, he asks Zagreus if he's ever been out this way before, if he's visited the Secondary Settlement and what the differences are, and generally bombards him with questions about his experiences so far in Solvunn for as long as Zagreus is willing to withstand them.
By the time they glimpse a giant fin cutting through the water up ahead, it may or may not be a relief to change the subject.
"Hold up." Red points out toward the unnatural shadow rippling under the water.
"Is that one of 'em?"

Keeping half an eye on Zagreus, Red makes for the rocks with alarming speed. At this point, he's not going to question any weird blood powers. He's seem enough weird shit here already, and has a sense it's just the tip of the iceberg.
"And how are we gonna keep from dashing our own boat on the rocks, Zagreus?!" Red shouts over the rush of the sea and the wind.

After all, the only boats he'd ever been on were those that travelled upon the rivers of the Underworld. Vessels that tended to be rather immune to little things like 'rocks'.
The leviathan is gaining, its head briefly rising upon the waters - at which point Zagreus hurls the Bloodstone at it. Upon contact it immediately sinks within the leviathan, and the beast...slows. Not overly so, but enough that it's clear the Bloodstone has had a detrimental effect.

"Hang on!"
Despite the beast being slowed down, hopefully it's still too big to turn as fast as their little boat can. That is, if Red can make the boat turn fast enough to actually avoid the shallowest part, rather than scraping the whole side of the boat on the rocks, which seems very likely at the moment.
They lurch, seawater splashing over the sides. An unpleasant grinding sound vibrates through the wood from below where some rocks must've scraped the bottom, and the boat creaks in protest while Red puts his full weight behind steering.

Pity he wasn't here. Maybe he should have asked his cousin Percy for a hand.
But even without the aid of Zagreus's divine relatives, Red's wild maneuver works. The leviathan roars as it launches itself out of the water - right where their boat used to be. Momentum propels the beast forward, even as the rocks drag against its belly and slows it down.
"Mate, you did it!" Zagreus says, laughing. It worked! He holds out one hand, summoning forth another Bloodstone as he grins at Red. "Fancy killing this thing until it's very, very dead?"

He draws his sword, one hand still on the tiller, and watches the leviathan struggle in the shadows.
"Y'know, I'd love to. Mightily missing my rifle right about now. But that magic rock you've got seems to be doing the trick. I'm afraid I'll have to get much closer to do any damage with a blade."

Because while the Bloodstones did deliver some damage, without a boon it wasn't anything particularly impressive. And he'd have to wait for the Bloodstones to emerge before he could throw them again. They were going to need to rely on their blades.
By this point, the Leviathan had begun to thrash violently, trying to dislodge itself for the rocks. If they waited too long, it might manage it and escape back to the sea. Luckily, Zagreus didn't plan to wait.
He Dshes forward, phasing forward in successive streaks of red light to get right up and personal with the Leviathan's tail. His sword flashes, dealing two quick strikes to the beast - before he needs to Dash quickly to dodge a swipe from its tail.

"Oh, fuck me," he mutters to himself when Zagreus zooms forward in that strange way of his, moving in right on top of the beast. Red feels guilty leaving him on his own, but honestly doesn't know how best to help.
Getting the boat stuck on the rocks won't be much use to them in the longer term but getting close to the monster is the only way he can actually reach without a gun. If Zagreus even needs help.
"How can I help?!" he shouts over the monster's screech when the blade finds its flesh. It's amazing Zagreus is able to fight so well in the water-- though everything he's doing right now is pretty amazing. Red is definitely feeling a lack of being useful right now.
