Kaz

Jesper remembers the feeling.

It's been years but when the influence of a certain god starts twisting into his stomach, it's like getting the worst kind of gambling reminder. It's the alleyways behind a den, it's the bitter taste of defeat, it's the strung up feeling that has him dizzy and stumbling despite not being drunk. He remembers how bad it got all that time ago, how he reveled in spreading Adlewyrd's hate, how he just gave into it rather than having the strength to fight.

It led to people he loved having to yet again drag him from the gutter, to find him pathetic and penniless, having spent all day encouraging lies and gossip. Kaz had to literally drag him home and he tried to seduce him to get more money, it was all very bad in his memory. Maybe not everyone has the same trigger as he does, but Jesper can tell when it goes from subtle influence to blatant. It's on the tip of his tongue, to tell an untruth to another merchant, to spread a little chaos, and he feels sick.

Jesper drops what he's doing and does what is rare for him: he runs. He doesn't know what else is possible than hiding. He avoids people talking to him, he avoids their eyes, he accidentally touched someone as he went and felt it empower - and depower - him. Jesper ends up scrambling into their place. It's early morning since he went out to get breakfast, and now he's shed his boots and jacket, crawling into Kaz's bed.

They share it more often now, within reason, but they do have their nights apart. This is not one of them. He wasn't there the night before and he curls up against Kaz's back, breathing heavily.

"Adlewyrd's back. Kaz, the heralds are back."

They had the vision of Zorne and it seemed like something was coming, but this is more than just 'something.'
