When Jesper had insisted that Steve wear the "corecloth" as he calls it, he really hadn't had any reason to protest. It's not like it's all that different from the concept behind his uniforms back home, just a lot more understated, which works for him just fine. He's resilient enough to come back from a lot of things, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't take precautions when they're available.
It's one thing to hear about Jesper's powers and another to see them in action. Steve hangs back and watches as Jesper does his thing. He's seen a lot of different people with a lot of different abilities, but that doesn't mean he's completely numb to it the first time. He did see Jesper use some of his abilities when renovating the inn, but that had been a very different context.
While Steve doesn't have an immediate outward reaction to the sight of a solid changing into a liquid, allowing them to walk right through the opening, he does stare back at the door as it returns to its original configuration.
It's a question of reshaping matter. He gets that. Vision probably could have managed something similar, and with an Infinity Stone or two, it would be child's play. But it's still impressive, and incredibly useful for this situation.
"I'm a little surprised you haven't gotten into more trouble before this." If Jesper has the ability to just access any place he isn't supposed to be — then again, who's to say he hasn't?
Now that they're inside, Steve can see that the base has been built into some sort of cave system, meaning that right now there's little to see but a stone tunnel surrounding them. It brings back some not so pleasant memories, but he's able to shake that off as he listens for any sign of guards nearby.
"... Hmm. Sounds pretty quiet for now." But they'll need to take care proceeding into the base. It's not like they have a map of this place.
