Deep down Kaz knows he can't order Jesper to be better in what is likely an illness he can't stop. It isn't as if he hasn't seen what that sickness can do to so many over the years he's taken advantage of. Jesper included.
It won't stop him from trying though.
He knew the incident with Inej had changed a lot with Jesper and his addiction. He also knew that his one slip here had been a lot that had eaten at him. Even if nightmares would make him hold tight to the promise of a future he was working towards, he still knew he had to do what he could to give Jesper balance and safety. Neither Kaz was good at, but just as Jesper was trying, so was he.
He knows hard words and reassurance wasn't going to make it enough, but he was going to do all he could to get Jesper through this. Just as Jesper had gotten him to this point as he strokes his fingers along Jesper's spine, offering that contact to remind him he wasn't alone.
"A time or two," he admits, his voice softer then. He ducks his head though at that, suddenly every inch the young man he is and has never been at the same time. He glances up at Jesper through heavy, dark lashes. "Less than a few hundred years or so is probably a good idea this time," he murmurs, his voice softer than most ever heard it. Not in a whisper but in tenderness.
His heart pounds just at those words, at the very idea of promises made for eternity. Words and deals and promises are at the very heart of the man that Kaz is and the being he'll become, and the thought of those words shared with Jesper means everything to him.
