"As someone who used to exclusively do things on my own, I've found the value in working with others. As a group, we have a better chance."
Istredd was raised in an organization with others so he was never alone, so to speak, but then he was set loose and spent decades just following his own interests and heart. And while that was lucky for him, and he was happy on his path, it did mean he isolated himself heavily from the rest of the world. He withdrew from the pain of his past and it made him bad with people, something he has adjusted to since coming here.
His feelings about the Summoned are far less complicated than fellow mages. His love for them more pure and well-developed over time and growing trust. It's about a family you chose, and he would not see them or this world be harmed due to negligence. He would rather think that Viktor could reach his goal with the rest of them, than make a mistake on his own.
"No, that's ... not what I entirely meant. I don't think we'll become exactly what we did. The timeline has already changed even if that was real, and our knowledge of it automatically alters what we experienced." Even if it had been a true future, it's gone now. He won't be able to get back what he loved about that life, not in the exact same way, but the big sweeping parts, maybe he can.
"I just don't think we can stop becoming gods. We have already been warped day by day here, our alterations have begun." The Singularity gives them power. Istredd looks down at his arm and he flexes, filling himself with a surge of power that shows the blue stars that now exist permanently against his veins. It stayed with him after the vision, a transformation that reminds him daily.
"But what we do when we get there, it's still up to us."
