"How about the moment we get out of this damn city? Either we'll escape our own way or become gods, and then we can get married when we're free and clear." Jesper has no intention of living in the Free Cities for the rest of his life. He is going to find a way to get somewhere that he chooses to be, not that was forced upon him. He'd love to go to the Feywilds or even Nocwich, somewhere that he didn't feel under the microscope, it's just not an option for now.

If they escape in the next year, they'll do it then. It'll be good incentive to escape, outside of the obvious. He wants Kaz to be free when he puts a ring on his finger and makes official what has always been in his heart. He kisses Kaz deeply, a promise within it. That what they've build with each other here can stand the test of time, and all the shadows that live in his heart still.
