Dragged out of the water in this place, Kaz had been angry and filled with spite and a need for violence. Now he imagines he would feel much the same if anything happened to take either of them from this place. One day they would get away from the army and find a place where they didn't have to worry about them conscripting Jesper, but until then he had to work through these things rather than allow them to cause him paralyzing fear.
Working through his issues dealing with skin contact with Jesper's help was a lot more desirable.
But he could do this.
He isn't even aware he's holding his breath until he sighs out as he sees the shape Jesper is forming things into. He had been thinking of his brother's form, but he's thankful that it's not anything of the sort.
"There wasn't this much water most of that time. It's like my fears are caving in on me," he says, frowning because it's exactly like that and he's wondering why they would arrange something so tailored. "But it would be..."
He stops to think. He can't see the pit as he had then, but he explored it all and so as he gestures, he's certain that's the way.
"That way. There was... the land should become drier there and then there will be a nearly hidden passage."

He thinks. He won't let himself hope for it.
