[ And they won't wilt, if only because it wouldn't occur to Julie that they should. They'll remain in a strange stasis between real and fake forever, at least as much as any of this is real. Like she told him before, it's all real enough.

She has always been quick to make connections with people, but they are generally predicated on what she can get out of a situation. It's rare that she develops any kind of bond beyond that. But the longer she stays in Abraxas, the more she finds that there's not all that much to want anymore; the kind of wealth and power and life she had fought so hard for, used so many people to get, it doesn't really exist here. Here, the only thing to gain is actual friendship and feelings (which, if she is honest, is usually pretty sickening in and of itself. Emotions, ew).

But she doesn't mind it so much with him.

He touches her arm and she watches him go, waves her fingers at him with a smile until he's gone through the doors and they shut again. The bar goes dark, Steven nowhere to be seen, and she just stands in pleased silence for a few minutes before she blinks back out of the Horizon and wakes up in bed. ]
