[open] an easy breezy post-holiday open mingle log for all your rp re-calibration needs
Who: The Free Cities' Summoned, including those recently arrived
When: Throughout January
Where: The Free Cities (mostly Cadens, but also to include Aquila and Libertas at player discretion)
What: Welcoming and acclimation of displaced Summoned, perhaps with some cultural exchange(?) between territories, dealing with quake & windstorm aftermath, just a good ol' fashioned open mingle log.
Warnings: N/A
[ooc; this is an open mingle log for free cities summoned, so please feel free to make your own starters and use the free cities setting page to fill in the gaps! these basic starters are for cadens (the capitol), but the seaside settlement of aquila and the cultural hotspot settlement of libertas are also available for use! as a reminder, the free cities has suffered through both the quake and bad windstorms as of late, and is surrounded more or less by desert.]

i. The Sarstina Inn
Nothing ever seemed to really ruffle Mag the innkeeper's feathers, not even the chaos of the abrupt arrival of Summoned who, rumor had it, were living abroad just days ago. It hadn't taken long for word to reach her that there was a new batch of people with nowhere to go, and the Sarstina Inn's doors were (metaphorically) thrown open for them at the insistence of a few long-term Free Cities Summoned. The Inn underwent renovation the previous year, and thanks to the improvements has withstood the worst of the earthquake and windstorm damage that rushed through Cadens before the new Summoned arrived, though there may be some minor damage to be fixed. With five floors, twenty or so rooms, and an outdoor patio, there's plenty of space to hold anyone looking for a warm bed and a good meal.
Not for free, of course. But for an hour or two of scrubbing cookware, or maybe fixing some of the damage from the quake and weather, she's happy enough to point anyone in the direction of an empty room. She's got a business to run, after all, and business in Cadens doesn't happen on the cheap. Just let her tell you about the taxes they charge for a block of good Solvunn butter.
To save Mag the headache of cooking for so many on such short notice, some of the established Summoned have rallied together to create a sort of potluck situation for the first week or so to feed the new (hopefully temporary) residents. The cuisine is varied, more or less what could be pulled together in a pinch to feed everyone, but all of it is laid out grazing-style for the arrivals every morning and evening. There's sure to be something for everyone--and when in doubt, there's always bread, cheese, and ale. So why not grab a plate and tankard, settle down at one of the long communal tables or a smaller one near the fire, and swap theories and gossip with the locals or your fellow Summoned?

ii. City Cleanup
The earthquake that rocked the other territories had not spared The Free Cities, and the windstorms that had swept through shortly after had only worsened the damage, especially to older buildings. Though the military is out in force to help civilians evacuate as needed, help from the Summoned (new and old) would be a relief for everyone. There are plenty of repairs to be done on the city's buildings, and some of the museums could use help cataloging and evaluating anything that might have been damaged or misplaced during the quake. The Academy, it seems, has weathered the storm better than most other buildings in Cadens, though there is still some minor repairs to be done to the façade.
The orphanage suffered the worst of any building in the capitol, entirely collapsing under the strain of the disasters and the age of its foundation. While only some of the children suffered injuries, they are to a one shaken from the experience and are facing the looming reality that they have nowhere else to go. While there won't be many possessions to be found in the rubble, there's no harm in sorting through it for anything that might bring them comfort, or working to find them temporary housing. They're sure to thank anyone who lends a hand with a bouquet of scraggly wildflowers or a really neat rock they found.
iii. Wildcard
Go ahead and explore The Free Cities! There's always plenty to do.
