assembles: (cue the dramatic music)

The specifics of the raft or why it's here are lost on Steve for the moment, as he stays laser-focused on getting Istredd there before he passes out from whatever wound he has or the waves try to drag him away from Steve's grip. It's Istredd who actually realizes what it is, and when he speaks up, Steve finally makes note of the shape and patterning on the raft — he's right, it's a massive turtle shell.

"Must be," he says, more as an acknowledgment than because he knows a thing about psychic sea creatures. Here in Abraxas, it's as good an explanation as any, and Steve isn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth either way.

He closes the rest of the distance between them and the turtle, then shifts around, briefly moving behind Istredd in the water so he can guide him to hold onto the side of the shell as if he was at the edge of a swimming pool.

"Hold on there for a sec," he instructs, before he approaches the shell itself and hauls himself up. Once he's out of the water, he takes a moment to shake himself off, then crouches down so he can offer Istredd an arm up. "Just grip my arm — hard." He'll do the rest, not yet knowing how much Istredd's wound might be impairing him.
