Istredd assumes it's the turtle they already knew but it may be another one. Either way, they keep being rescued by turtles, so they must be working together. Psychic animals may indeed be true. Otherwise everyone who dropped into this ocean would be dead. The Singularity may be looking out for them, considering it did this in the first place.
Istredd follows his instruction and holds on with his good hand, transferring it as quickly as possible to Steve's arm. Luckily he doesn't end up being tossed off into the sea in that split second. He holds on tight and lets himself be pulled up onto the raft, trying to get a grip with his legs as soon as he's up over the edge so not too much weight on Steve. Then again, he probably doesn't weigh much compared to Steve's strength.
His arm isn't completely dead he probably would have used it to swim eventually but it does hurt and is bleeding profusely. Istredd sits and takes a look at it. He puts a hand on it, starting to try and heal, but nothing happens. He tries a few times, but the magic only sputters and then stops. "Fucking Singularity," he mutters.
