He does pick up on large shadow that's cast from overhead and his first thought is that it's some kind of winged monster (maybe another rift has opened?) until he sees that familiar silhouette. He barely has time to react, though, as Sam smoothly lands and then jogs toward him, wings still on, to drag him into a hug.
Steve tenses up just briefly in shock before he relaxes, smiling to himself as he attempts to hug Sam back. It's a little awkward with the wingpack on, but he doesn't care.
