I don't think normal rules apply when you're dealing with a magic being.

I...don't know. I have access to a really good magic education in Nott, I don't know if I'd have that in the Free Cities. They don't seem all that cool with magic. And one of us needs to know magic if we're going to survive here. You have a steady job. But I don't think we should rule Cadens out. Maybe...something we can work towards. Get what we can from Nott and then move on? It's probably not going to be easy, either way.
