[ Eating a horse is not unheard of. Horses become lame, injured. Folk grow hungry and desperate on a trail or during a famine. Armies run out of rations as wars drag on. But it's another thing to consider them livestock altogether. They're working animals—expensive, and far more valuable for their labour than their meat. (And for him, an irreplaceable companion.) ]
