[ Sam isn't wrong: there are a number of reasons why Geralt's come to let Sam into his life, how he's decided to trust him, but the most significant is that Sam's never pushed past what Geralt has allowed. From the moment they'd met, each time Geralt said don't ask, Sam didn't question it or insist otherwise or go around him to find out from Jaskier instead. He simply didn't ask—not because he didn't care or had no desire to bother, but because it was requested of him. Geralt's always refused to offer himself over solely at the behest of others—too many have made choices for him as it is—but he's often had to fight to do so. Sam's one of the few for whom he just...can. Where it isn't treated as though he's being difficult, as though he owes something to the world.
It's why he's never found it unusual that Sam didn't ask to see his domain or ever tried to come inside looking for him before Geralt invited him. And it's why he does find it worth noting that, regardless of the unlocked doors, Sam has wandered all the way inside where normally he might've knocked first or waited for explicit acknowledgment. It doesn't bother him, exactly. Not like that. It's more that it's what makes Geralt look at Sam a little closer—curious as to what's gotten him distracted.
