[ sam is still working, too. and by the time he finishes and geralt starts to speak, he's helping with the iron. with collecting the tools. thankfully, they're all the same steps. the same pieces. even if the tools aren't as modern as sam is used to.

so is he geralt says, and sam makes an agreeable noise. he knows the words are more contemplative from geralt's end, yes, but for sam he's thought about that. ]
People will forgive almost anything of its leaders if they follow blindly enough. [ there is obvious weight to how sam says that, like he's used to leaders of all varieties having blind eyes turned to them, both for the better and for the worse. there's no real right answer, here. sam knows that. but it doesn't make it any easier to try and figure out what to do next.

and the truth is - sam, in a way, knows he's too late. if he wanted to have stopped this, he should have been paying closer attention. should have been more active in the city itself. these are long-held prejudices that aren't going to change overnight, but can be ignited in an instance. he should have known this would come. should have been working to alter it weeks before now. should have been doing so much else, but he didn't, and now he's on the reaction side of things.

he takes the turnscrew and moves to his own side of the table. starts in on the iron and screws themselves. when geralt starts to speak, sam only glances in his direction once - as if to reinforce that he's listening, before his focus turns back to the work. listens to geralt's words, his wisdom, with a kind of grave acceptance. because geralt is right - he can't turn the tide. he can't stand before a hurricane and push it back. he's never been someone with that sort of power, and he never will be, even here. but there are things he can do, and he has to try, if nothing else. ]

I think I'm gonna start reaching out to the people I know in Solvunn. Can't really do much else. [ because the truth is? sam has no idea beyond the farms what is even happening over there. ]

And that's just it, he's not working alone. He's got followers here in the city- a significant number- which means that whether or not the rest of us agree, Cadens is going to start seeing us as with them, or against them. If we don't do something about it. He met with Marlo, too, so we're one conversation away from official backing.

[ sam finishes with one of the screws and steps around over to the next, but there's an unspoken sigh in the movements. ]

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't already have some convoy taking him to Solvunn as we speak. It didn't take long for Thorne to send theirs after the Dimming- but they didn't ask a Summoned to go with them, that time. This time, it's all from Goro.
