Any research towards the Singularity would open doors. [ Aiding Thorne is not in his interest, but he is interested in the Singularity and Thorne remains the only place where one can actively, openly desire to learn of it without causing suspicion. He can't do much from Cadens. They want to destroy it as it is.

Still—if Thancred wants an excuse to use to exit the city gates, that's one way. If he can convince the High Mage that a trip would be worthwhile. In fact...

He tilts his head. ]
You'll find a man named Stephen Strange. He might get you where you want.

[ Exactly how or why, Geralt doesn't elaborate further. He's pointed Thancred in a direction; if Stephen thinks Thancred is worth divulging to what he's investigating, then that's his decision. Geralt's only asked the man to look into the nature of the Singularity. How Stephen's went about it, he doesn't know, but he's been given word that Stephen can be trusted. So far, he hasn't found cause to doubt that.

The Singularity is a larger matter than who does or does not control it, whether it stands or falls. It goes past what political machinations so many of those who first chose to remain in Thorne seem keen on. He wants to know exactly what power it holds that perhaps even these territories don't realize. And that isn't information he wants circling back to anyone in power—nor anyone who would use it for such. ]
