[ While Thancred has already asked for Stephen to magically imbue the cartridges that load into his gunblade, this incantation is something else entirely. He watches as the sharp edge of the blade heats up, glowing orange as if it's been held over coals in a forge. That's bound to make it that much easier to cut these wolves down, or at least injure them to the point that they'll think better of the fight they've picked and run off.
Stephen's warning is for Yennefer, and yet Thancred cannot stop himself from turning back to ensure that she isn't also knocked down by one of these things. He's ready to step in and assist if needed, but Yennefer has it all in hand, using her scorching hot daggers to tear through the attacking wolf. Already Thancred can smell the distinct odor of burning flesh, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. That smell should scare off anything else in these woods that might have otherwise wanted to join the fight.
He senses movement in front of him as another wolf leaps out, but manages to bring his blade up just in time to shield himself from the predator's fangs. As soon as the wolf's mouth hits the hot steel, it makes a whining noise and leaps away from the source of heat, allowing Thancred to give chase and cut it down with a slash across its flank.
How many?! Yennefer calls out behind him, and Thancred takes a moment to scan the trees surrounding them, even as he rushes toward Stephen. Two more dart out from behind trees to block off his path, forcing him to skid to a halt. ]
At least seven!
[ That's over twice their number, but Thancred still isn't at the point of panic. All three of them are accomplished fighters, and two of them have magick they can draw on. Yennefer has yet to use hers, and Thancred can guess at why, though she's managing well enough without it.
Thancred readies his sword arm and rushes at the two wolves, hoping he can make quick work of them and get to Stephen to help him to his feet. ]
