[ jesper, and then inej, are perfect examples as to why sam takes so much time and effort to make sure people know about mag's place. it hasn't always been easy, and sam knows that when it comes down to it all, he'll be on the hook if mag isn't making the coin she needs for the in. but it's all worked out - really worked out - and chances are, by this point jesper and inej have probably been invited over for dinner a time or two, too. gotten themselves jobs (he hopes). like they're really settling in.
for now, sam just hands the food over to jesper, making a kind of snorting noise as he shakes his head. ]
You're judging, man. I know. I can see it. And if you keep it up, I'm not afraid to take the food back. I'm warning you. [ he's joking, of course he's joking, but there might be some truth to the threat (he's invoking his mother in that statement, after all.) but jesper does take the food, and sam nods a bit to himself as he takes a look over jesper, too. the new clothes, the easy way he holds himself. again - settling in. sam feels good about it.
his brows arch at the comments, though, laughing a little at the idea. he knows where jesper is coming from, and he is a bit touched at the concern, if only because he does worry if he looks exhausted or if it's just some of that earlier observant tendency he caught in jesper doing that first meeting. for now, sam shrugs it off - he's doing a lot better than he was just a few days prior, anyway. and he is having fun, tonight. even if he's also working at the same time. ] I'll take a vacation when we don't have to worry about a war, how about that?
[ he rolls his eyes a little when jesper laughs at jaskier's music, if only because he's been both an uncle and an older sibling. he knows how this goes with teenagers. ]
You're lucky- [ he adds, when jesper turns back. ] If I'd seen you when we were setting up, you'd probably have ended up back here helping out. So you better have fun tonight. You might be working next time.
