TRAINING MONTAGE

This memory seems to be composed of a series of memories. Cassandra is a young in all of them, however, although the length of her hair changes. It’s starts with her being teeny and short-haired, armed with a wooden sword and facing off against a young man who is very clearly related to her. Despite her age, she doesn’t seem to be fumbling with her weapon. She’s certainly having fun, anyway. They spar back and forth, until she gets a hit (whether or not Percy let her is a fact lost to the ages), and he clutches his shoulder dramatically before winking at her.

The next has her still teeny, still short-haired, still armed with a wooden sword, but the lesson is much more serious. She’s sparring with someone older, but who very much shares similar features with her. Another brother. Her eldest brother. They spar for a bit, he makes a comment about her form, correcting it, and they go again. Back, and forth, across the field. This is the first time she starts to use her terrain to her advantage.

The last in the series of memories, she’s still young, but her hair is longer, and her sword is no longer made of wood. She’s faster now, more skilled, and very, very nimble, using her terrain to her advantage as easily as breathing. Still sparring with her eldest brother, the fight takes them across the field, and into the forest.

(There’s a flicker of another battle, far underground in a ruin made of stone, where she’s battling that same brother from the first memory, her hair short and streaked with white. He’s sometimes wreathed in shadow a beaked plague mask to match briefly and his hair is now white. He carries a firearm, and his eyes flicker between their natural shade and being all black with yellow irises. And this battle isn’t playing.)
