Kylo's lips quirk, the briefest tug of a smile. Somehow, he hadn't expected Anakin to place himself quite so firmly on Kylo's side— though until very recently he'd only ever known his grandfather as symbolised by a ruined helmet and a voice in his head urging him to honour his legacy. Perhaps the discovery that the man Vader had been in life is more human and understanding shouldn't be such a surprise.
All of that can't quite dampen the blow when Anakin mentions that Rey brought up the subject of his mother, though. A sour note bleeds out through the Force despite Kylo's best efforts, discordant with hurt and jealousy. He glances away.
"Rey," he begins carefully, bitter in the undercurrent, "...is my replacement. And my opponent, all in one. That's what they have her training to be. Their champion. A more suitable candidate than the son they feared."
