Jayce agrees with everything Kell is saying, so in a way, it's helping ease some of his guilt. It's not that he wanted that to be how his relationship with his mentor ended. He would have appreciated any kind of middle ground, a heart-to-heart, a promise to meet them halfway, or compassion for Viktor's situation. He did what he had to do to protect his best friend.
