You'd be surprised how easily a small change can ripple into larger things.

But... you do know your world. I won't argue it. But... I know of other worlds, not all are quite like mine, some are closer to yours. But no matter the world knowledge is a gift no matter how easily accessible it is. Learning anything, from a book or from someone is the best thing.
