Jesper shakes his head. "He was one of the first people brought here, the people who were imprisoned by Thorne. So he knows them well, or at least how they used to be." He has been trying to be open-minded for Mat's sake and others who are in Thorne, trying to get by, but everything he heard about the kingdom makes his skin crawl. Jesper's friends with a few people who were in that position, so obviously he's going to be judgy. And worry. Which he does.

He waits until they get enough food and abandons plate duty to pull Mat out onto the porch where it's a little quieter. "What if you were given the option to run to Free Cities like they did? Would you take it now?" Mat didn't change factions back when given the option because they were all very new, so Jesper doesn't know if he's changed his mind on that front.
