"We scientists can be really annoying about that," Jayce says with a smile. "It's another language entirely. When it's done it'll all make sense." He isn't saying that to be condescending, if anything, he gets it. He's used to having to explain his technology to people who are not scientists, and he likes doing that. Schematics and formulas aren't for everyone, but that's why concrete examples are common speech. Everyone gets it then.

"The message I took was that people can choose for themselves what they want to do, but no one should feel required to fight, if that isn't their way." Viktor for example he would not expect to fight, nor would he be okay with anyone trying to push it on his friend. Pacifists have their own priorities. Jayce really hopes that they will never have a reason to get violent, but if they do, that will be his problem to deal with, of the two of them. He's already gotten his hands dirty once. There is some of that world-weariness behind his eyes, even as he says more optimistic things. Goro saw him boxing that first day, without much skill but with plenty of aggression. It's in him.

"They shouldn't be surprised if Summoned refuse to fight for them, considering we were kidnapped out of our world. And be glad no one seems to be turning their ire on the leaders of these factions." The Summoned have powers, some of them, they're dangerous. So all it would take is one of them being angry about being here to cause mayhem.
