The True Earth Rune is one of the most powerful tools for measuring the earth that there is.

But it would probably be smart for people to gather data with other methods. Not just as confirmation but, as you say, to present findings.
I don't think the Free Cities would feel moved to act on readings from a wizard of Thorne even if he
is
a Summoned.
