He's one of those guys who could probably have a nice conversation about the weather and not consider it pointless, if it's engaging.
But as someone surrounded much of the time by introverts, it's nice to tell someone else who seems to be mostly at ease in the situation. His project does have many sets of eyes on it, but none of them would consider it wasted energy. Good scientists like working together to make something unusual work, it's fun to have a challenge. If the wings do get pulled off, it'll be a win for everyone. ]
