What: sam is calling a Summoned Town Hall (and get-together.)
Where: sam's horizon
When: mid-may (one afternoon into evening)
Warnings: will update as necessary.
THE SETUP
This meeting has been planned for some time now - at least from Sam's point of view. Even before the Summit he knew this would be important, but between the Eclipse and the dream of the Eye and everything that followed, there were some other things that required his attention. But as soon as that all settled, and as soon as the Free Cities started reaching out for reports, proving that each of the Summoned have been watched and tracked down, well. Big Brother always has to start somewhere.
So he reaches out to Stephen and Wanda - tells them of his plan for a meeting, about getting everyone together to discuss the impending war, the factions, and everything that came before. He left it up to Wanda and Stephen to disseminate the information and invitation however they saw fit - anyone was invited, of course, but that didn't mean everyone needed to attend. This was intended to be a smaller group, more contained, so as not to attract any unwanted attention, but who knew what happened once the date and time got out there.
Once everyone arrives, they'll be directed into the main area of the house - where the living room and kitchen meet to form one of the corners. It will be a bit of a tight squeeze, depending on how many show up, but there will also be plenty of chairs, couch space, corners, and wherever else anyone will want to settle and listen.
When everyone has filed in and found their spot, Sam will come to stand at the front and center of the room. He plans to address everyone first with something of a speech (Captain America, anyone?) which he will then open up the floor to questions (see open top level below). There will be a point in the middle of the questions that Sam will seem to catch notice in the corner of the room and - distractedly - will direct all questions to Stephen as he nods and heads up the stairs - followed closely behind by Geralt, who seems to have just appeared - but he will be back in about fifteen or so minutes and will pick up directly where he left off.
Once Sam believes the questions have settled, or at the very least everyone is way too hungry to sit still for any longer, he will dismiss everyone for food, drinks, or just smaller circles of discussion. Meeting's over, go stuff your face with Horizon food! But be warned - Julie's manning the bar. OOC INFO
- It is Sam's intention that this to be a closer cr/smaller group, but as it is with any invitation/meeting, the word can easily get out, so feel free to have your character have learned about it/heard about it/stumble in even if they don't know Sam.
- Any questions that you want your character to pose to Sam directly, please put under this top level and I will prioritize. Because these are questions in an open forum, go ahead and note on your tag if you are down for other characters to chime in, etc.
- For about 15 minutes or so, Stephen will be in charge of answering questions (much to his dismay and with no preparation or warning). So if you want your question to be directed to him, please make a note.
- please feel free to leave a top-level below for mingling after the speech/q&a session. Sam's entire domain is open, save for one locked bedroom upstairs. It'll be a bit like a barbeque, a bit like an after-party, a bit like some chill time at Sam's horizon to meet and greet whoever is around.
- if you have any other questions, feel free to hit me up at disarmingly or pm this account!
THE SPEECH
[ sam isn't nervous, exactly, as everyone starts filing in. most of the faces he recognizes, most of the faces know their way around, so it's not like there's a whole lot of this that feels all that serious. it's not until a few more people start showing up, faces that sam doesn't recognize right off the bat, that has him shifting into something a little more...well, professional. it's been years since he's led any sort of counseling session. longer, if you want to count the snap. and while this definitely isn't counseling, it's starting to feel similar enough.
so as more people start showing up, and as they get closer and closer to the time that sam had sent around with everyone, sam starts pulling himself away from conversations. starts telling people to take seats wherever they can find a spot. it's a squeeze - his living room isn't exactly made for a community meeting - so he ends up having some of them spill over into the kitchen area, some even back behind the island. where he stands in the hallway between, everyone can see him. and honestly, anyone in the house can hear him, so it doesn't matter all that much where everyone ends up.
it's a few minutes later before he's in front of everyone, with one of the kitchen bar stools pulled up so he can sit (lord knows he's not imagining some kind of podium today). then, once everyone has appeared to have settled and with a breath and straightening of his shoulders, he begins. ]
First off- I want to welcome everyone to my place. A bunch of y'all have been here before, sure, but some are new, so I just want to make one ground rule pretty clear: don't be assholes. This place will always be open for you, even if I'm not around, but treat it like what it is, which is my house. No fighting, no destroying my place, nothing. I don't care that all this is technically magic or we could all fix it up however we want, it's my home. Respect it.
[ and then he smiles, which shifts what was beginning to feel a bit like some kind of parent or babysitter figure into something that feels a bit more welcoming. a bit warmer. there's a hint here for those that don't know him of the fact that this isn't always the way he carries himself. isn't always how he acts. but there is a job to do, a point to get to, and so he doesn't fully relax. ]
And thank y'all for coming. The last time we had one of these was...well, it was some time ago, back when we were all in the castle. And considering some of the events since then, I figured it's about time we all had another of these get-togethers.
My name's Sam, [ hi sam. ] And I live in Cadens, the capital of the Free Cities. I've been in Abraxas just over a year, and was part of the first group that got pulled through the portal, back when Ambrose in Castle Thorne was the only one doing it. So if any of y'all have questions about what's happened since we first started showing up, I can talk you through some of it, or at least try and answer what I can; but I'm gonna ask you save those questions for after all this. I didn't call this sort of Town Hall for a history lesson, at least not entirely, and I planned on having time for questions.
[ as he keeps talking, it's less that the smile fades and more that his tone takes on a heavier weight to it. a subtle shift, from someone welcoming a group of people into their living room to someone with a little more authority to him. he's not trying to be intimidating, or scary, or even all that unapproachable. more so, he's here for a purpose, and that purpose is important. and that's the set to his shoulders as he starts up again. ]
Now, if you didn't know already, this world has a few centuries of history under its belt. And just like any other world, or continent, or whatever you want to call it - all the different kingdoms, or factions, haven't always gotten along. These big three we know most about - Thorne, Solvunn, and the Cities - have a lot of that tangled history between them, and us showing up has only complicated it even more. These beliefs are pretty much in direct opposition to each other, and that includes what they think we - the Summoned - are here to do and how to treat us.
[ as sam talks, his arms come to cross over his chest and his eyes slowly start to move around the room - from face to face, person to person. he takes time, in his way, to make eye contact with just about everyone in the room. to connect with everyone, if he can. ]
Where we come in is the fact these factions are on the brink of war, and I don't say this lightly. Events, since we've arrived, have already escalated, to a point that we can't ignore them anymore. Now- that could mean days, that could mean months, hell. It could be years before the first shot is taken- but Thorne, Solvunn, and the Cities have all made it clear they're headed in that direction, and they are going to try and bring us along for the ride. I've been told that the people showing up in the barracks outside of Cadens are literally being told they've been drafted.
[ he pauses, as if waiting to see if that even surprises anyone - that there's a war, that the cities are actively looking towards their military, that this is known. but before anyone can pipe in, he picks up again. ]
If being a part of this war is something you do want in on, then man, go for it. Consider yourself lucky. But I'm here, now, to let people know that we're not all here for that reason and that there are a lot of us who are actively against it. War is not new to me, as it probably isn't for a lot of you. I've done my fair share of fighting in them, and fighting against them breaking out at all, but I'm not naive, either. With centuries on centuries of bad blood behind these kingdoms, it's not a matter of someone showing up and saying the right thing at the right time. As much as I might want to, I'm not going to walk in and talk to the Prime Minister of the Cities and get her to stand down from this war. Believe me- I've already tried. But that's also okay, because at this point my goal isn't to try and fix their problems for them. [ which...okay, there might be some thinly veiled frustration there. because sam has, actually, tried. a couple of times now. and he's less than thrilled by how it was received. was he surprised? not at all. but that doesn't mean he's happy about it either. ]
What I'm here to do - and what I'm here to talk to all y'all about, today - is just to make sure you know that you don't need to fight their war. They brought us here without our say, called by the Singularity and whatever tether we're supposed to have with it. Some of these places have welcomed us, and some haven't been given the welcome they deserve. But this place, these factions, however it is they've treated you - you are not a weapon for them to manipulate and you are not a soldier drafted into their war. And I want everyone here to remember that, because they will try and convince you to their cause, and honestly, they probably won't be that wrong in their reasons why.
But their problems are not for you to solve - not unless you want to - and you're not alone in this.
It's easy to forget how many of us are here when we're all split up across this continent - and sure, we have the Horizon to keep us connected, we've got that weird sort of- [ he gestures out towards one of the walls, though it's hard to tell what he means until he continues- ] -sparkling text thing that means we can keep in contact, but that's not the same. And when you're isolated, it's real easy to get caught up in these reasons, or opinions, of the factions.
I'm here to tell you that are aren't alone. And while any decision you want to make, or any side you want to join, is up to you - you do have all these people in this room at your back. We are in this together, and we can be here for each other, and what that means for me is making sure we don't get caught up in this war.
And honestly - I'm not here to ask for help. If you want to, hell, I'll take all the help I can get. But it's not your job, and it's not your responsibility. This isn't some recruitment meeting, no, I'm just asking you to be aware of what’s happening around you, and not to get manipulated by propaganda. Think for yourself. Keep your eyes open.
[ there is a brief moment here where sam pauses, like he's taking a breath. like he's letting everything he just said settle. it feels a bit like he's wrapping up, when he lets out this next breath. bare with him - he won't talk forever. ]
There are a lot of us who have gotten settled in our time here, and some who are just looking for a place to call home. These factions - they're going to fight for their home, and if you want to fight for yours, I'm not going to stop you. But it is your choice, and we- [ a beat, and then sam gives a small, slightly tired smile and settles back into his chair. it looks a bit like he was going to gesture to some key people around him, but like he makes the decision to leave it to him, instead. ] -I am here to make sure you know that. And to help in whatever way I can.
Now. [ another pause, and then sam claps, drawing everyone's attention back together. ] Any questions?
q&a. (ota)
[ and sam will answer anything that is asked with as much honesty as a single man can muster. he does have the patience of a saint, but also don't try and obviously piss him off. he's here to help you, and he will help you, as much as he can.
this question/answer period will last as long as it needs to, but there will be a specific moment about halfway into it that sam will seem to get distracted by something in the back of the room. if your character turns to look, there will seem to be a late arrival - geralt - who wasn't there when this all started but is there now. sam's attention will come back to the question, which he will answer as quickly as possible, and then before the next one can be asked he'll speak up. ]
Dr. Strange, here, can answer a few for right now. I've got to go take care of something, but I'll be back in just a sec. [ and then, without any other warning, sam is going to step away and head up the stairs with geralt.
he'll be back after about fifteen, twenty minutes, like nothing has happened and will continue to chime in and answer, taking back over for stephen if need be. ] Right, can you repeat that question?
lil chat.

after the q&a. (ota)
the house is pretty much open, though sam will most likely head outside to the porch as soon as he can. it's evening, now, and the stars light up the louisiana sky. he'll be making rounds, walking up to those he knows with a clap on the shoulder and a thank you for coming or, if he doesn't know you quite yet, it'll be a thank you for coming and a hand, outstretched, to shake. an introduction.
he's a natural host, so he's not afraid to walk up to anyone trying to stand off to the side, or keep away from the crowds. or, if you want to go looking for him, he can be found just about anywhere - setting up tables, organizing food, most likely needing a drink, or a beer, or whatever else someone brings to him because he's too busy to go get it for himself.
either way, the vibes of this 'after party' is pretty chill, pretty casual, at least for now. ]

following the q&a, ota
It's Thancred's nature to explore any new space, and so he'll be found just about anywhere: peeking into the kitchen to see what food is on offer (though he isn't likely to take any unless encouraged), staring at the television in the living area with a hint of unfamiliarity, or finding some fresh air (or the facsimile of it) out on the porch or even down near the docks.
Any familiar faces he'll be sure to nod to, or offer a quick hello unless they're interested in a more involved chat. Even for those he hasn't met, he'll come across as affable if their paths cross.
He understands well by now that it's rare for the Summoned to gather in numbers like this, particularly between factions. Organizing such a meeting even within the Horizon is no small task, and he won't squander the chance to mingle beyond the Summoned he knows from Thorne. ]

ota after sam's spiel
She brings the party, of course.
Bottle after bottle got dumped into the bowl, until there was an impressive concoction, which she stirred and allowed to settle through Sam's long speech. His long, long, long speech, which she listened to from the arm of the sofa, one foot idly bobbing.
After it's all done, she comes back outside and begins ladling drinks into cups. She does also have an impressive array of liquor on the table still, and can make most drinks upon request, but anyone else is welcome to serve themselves too.
One important thing can be noted: any beverage of Julie's that you drink will send you straight to the moon. Certainly the punch, which is mostly Everclear with some vodka, tequila, triple sec and a bunch of juices and Sprite added, but even the more straightforward stuff seems stronger than it would normally be. People might also find that their cups don't seem to empty quite as fast as they should, if they ever empty at all.
Julie herself, once the bar is established and open, can be found near a fire pit, draped sideways so that her legs dangle over one of the arms of the chair. She has a cup of punch and a joint, and on the ground near one of the chair legs is a picked-at piece of grilled chicken on a plate. Curiously, fireflies seem to circle around her with a high frequency.
Anyone near her may have their conversation dropped into without warning -- she has a lot to say, all the time -- and loners may be offered their choice of... personality aids. It can be said, however, that Julie herself does not seem much more than pleasantly tipsy at all times, which should not be possible given how much she is drinking, or how long she spends smoking. This isn't like the last barbecue, where their number was much smaller and more easily trusted, since they were all in the same situation. No, now there are people to watch, to size up, and no matter how bubbly she is (she's very bubbly), there is still a critical glint to her eyes when she meets the newbies. ]

Goro | Post-speech OTA
When the speech is over, Goro does not take his leave. To leave immediately would likely tip his hand as to why he came in the first place, if that was not transparent enough, and because he still has more he wants to observe. He moves slowly from room to room in the first floor of the house, albeit carefully by times. He always stands apart from the crowd, or at least as best he can, generally keeping to himself as best he can.
In slight deference to the party atmosphere, he does have a drink held somewhat precariously in a lower hand, but he does not appear to be drinking from it.
And if approached, well, he'll offer his own opinions. Why should Sam's be the prevailing thought? At least he can say he was asked.

Kell Maresh | after q&a | OTA
Then the host walks to the front, the buzz around ceases, and speech begins. It's long, though he heard longer. Still, the more Kell listens, the more he's glad he caved in to his brother's request. The host, Sam, had him at 'you are not weapons'. It only gets better after that. Most of the things the man talked about, Kell had no idea about. Not that he suddenly developed an interest in politics, he just realized it might affect him no matter his preference to ignore it.
He'd be quite displeased with anyone ever trying to use him as a weapon again. But not liking a thing, and being able to do something about it, are two completely different things.
And he's yet to hear a solution for that.]

After Speech OTA
He hangs back, staying silent through it all. It's very pretty and nice, but he doubts it will really play out so simply. As though they aren't in a position to be punished or suffer consequences for actions that don't line up with what those in charge want. Not that he's inclined to fight anyone's wars, he just doesn't imagine Thorne is going to take 'no' without protest. Oh well. What could they expect him to do, anyway? He has no experience and he can barely control his powers.
But it may be worthwhile to hear what other people's opinions are. Those who have been here longer than him and have more experience with the various leaders of this world. Mat's only dimly aware of them - it's not like the royal family pals around with their Summoned. And there's refreshments, which he always appreciates.
He's wearing the same thing he often wears in Thorne - his fancy black coat with the gold and purple brocade and Wheel of Fortune medallion - and he stays about the edges of the crowd, meeting the eyes of anyone he knows and sizing up those he doesn't.

viktor & jayce | post-speech ota
Afterward, the two scientists can be found mingling—still together, but taking part in the social atmosphere with drinks in hand. Jayce is far more directly friendly, quick to wave at people he already knows or has seen around, gesturing for them to come over with a bright, eager smile. He will start conversations with people if they linger, even if it's only to say hello and ask if they're having a good time. He towers over most people at 6'4 but there is nothing really intimidating about him.
Going to parties with a lot of people and potential conversations is nothing new for Jayce so he is at ease, disappearing briefly from his partner's side only to return to refill their drinks and share some of the food Sam puts out. It might not be filling, but it tastes real at least. Viktor, for his part, is not opposed to talking business, if you’re in the market for the various engineering talents they have on offer. Or, perhaps you just want to say hello.]

Jayce Talis | after the speech OTA
Jayce can be found trying out the food; it may not be real, but it still is something new to him and he loves new things. It's clear he is putting together more food on a plate than he himself can eat, because he plans on bringing it back to his partner later. While there he glances up and if he meets a person's eye, he is likely to smile warmly and say hello.
At one point Jayce wanders out onto the porch and then a little out of Sam's Horizon to the docks, but he doesn't go too far, he's just clearly intrigued and exploring. Jayce finds it fascinating what people put in their spaces, especially since he and Viktor share theirs and are much more work-focused in their designed locations. It's nice to take a few moments and think about the situation here, and if someone joins him, he'll nod and introduce himself.
Jayce is six four and broad shouldered, dressed in his lab clothes with sleeves pushed up to his elbows and gloves on. In here he isn't wearing a tie or vest, but he does in Cadens. He is wearing a special bracelet he can only have in here.
Come say hi! He'd love company.]

Jesper Fahey | OTA after speech
Afterward, Jesper goes to the food and doesn't immediately eat all of it himself, instead he plays the good kid and offers people plates and silverware if they want to tuck in. He's trying to help out, and it's not as if the food here goes away or will run out, so he doesn't have to fight off people for a meal. Once he feels he's been helpful enough, he does grab a huge plate and wanders off to the porch to chomp it all down.
Jesper is dressed in greens like he does in Cadens but they're much flashier here, and he has a unique pair of pearl-handed revolvers at his belt. He's constantly touching them to remind himself they're there, even if he knows they'll be gone as soon as he leaves. He invited people to this event himself, so he was very eager to get it going, and he's quick to say hello or greet anyone he knows or doesn't know.
Otherwise he may be found settled on the back porch sitting down, looking into the distance, seemingly at peace if only for a few seconds. ]

Inej Ghafa | OTA
Inej feels she's rather close with Sam at this point in her time spent in Cadens, and at Mag's, but she has not been to his little slice of the Horizon. She is there early to help him with whatever set-up there might be to help with, though she knows the Horizon, and Sam's piece of it, as it is, probably provides everything strictly necessary for the most part anyway. Early is just kind of her way, and Sam has become a fast, steady fixture for her, so she's easily found floating around the open, living spaces of the house as the crowd starts flooding in.
It's a little bit before people are properly settled, but once they are and Sam takes up the helm at the centermost spot in the room, she perches on the edge of the kitchen island, legs dangling over the edge and crossed at the ankles as she listens to what he has to say. She thinks she knows most of what he might think, but she listens intently all the same.
A year. First group. Anything you need to know. Etcetera. She knows all of these facts, but there's a shift in him when he gets the introductory part over with. Small. Subtle. In the set of his jaw. The sharp line of his shoulders. There's a distinct... authority to him that is not usually present in the father-or-older-brother-like attitude he tends to utterly exude when speaking with her. She presses her lips together to hide her amusement at it. Not the time.
Centuries of bad blood. Headed to war. Dragging us along for the ride. She quietly ticks off the points in her head. All things they've discussed, at least touched on though not quite what she might consider at length. Nothing new or surprising here, though. She had seen evidence of all those things on her own. She coughs into her hand to hide a laugh when he says he's tried to talk Cadens' Prime Minister down from this war. Somehow, that isn't surprising at all.
Then the scale tips and it's a downhill slide into sheer camaraderie and you're not alone's. The sort of things that sound more like platitudes than she thinks he means for them to. Inej knows, beyond all doubt, Sam truly means every word he's saying. He will be there for anyone who steps through the door in his horizon. Anyone who ever needed a hand could count on him to offer one. But it doesn't stop that part of it from sounding like the sort of thing people say because it sounds good, and little else.
There's a dangerous line here that she wonders if he realizes he could be unintentionally setting into people's minds, too: We, the Summoned, against Them, the Natives. Will it come to that? Hopefully not. Maybe not. But Inej makes a note to talk to him about it later, too.
She doesn't have any questions for him, but she does listen to all the others' questions directed to him and Stephen, to whom she still needs to introduce herself. Inej notices when Sam disappears suddenly and arches her eyebrows at him for it, though he won't see her. She's going to note to ask about that later, too.
In the meantime, all the important business out of the way, she'll slide off the counter in the kitchen and float through the house, mingling with anyone that seems interesting to speak to, or any that might approach her instead. She keeps a subtle ear out for interesting tidbits, just in case.

Feel free to head over here if you'd like to let me know what Inej might overhear from your character while she floats around subtly eavesdropping on conversations.
She's primarily keeping an ear out specifically for any political leanings from people in other factions, thoughts/opinions on the idea of the war, the tensions between factions, or anything someone might comment about Sam/this gathering/anything contained therein. Chatter of local lores in each faction will also pique her interest!

His fight or flight had been pushed onto its axis prior to his jaunt in purgatory, and being trapped in one place and then pulled into another of similar confinement had taken its toll on him.
The meeting at Sam's Horizon had been a point of interest for him since he'd caught wind of it and his well-spoken and well-put speech helped to abate some of his own concerns. It's not difficult to see why Dean held such high regard for him, the way he commands the room and assuages the doubt of the crowd should be commended. It had been a long time since he'd witnessed a human with such venerable qualities, and it reminded him of exactly why he'd chosen to help Dean and Sam and had abandoned everything he'd ever known by doing so.
He stays off to the side for the duration of the speech, his eyes never leaving Sam during the entirety of his declaration. The food, drink, and communication is a tapestry of things not meant for him and so after the questions are asked and answered Castiel exits the main house and moves out to the dock. The water is calm, and the light breeze makes it sing on the wind peaceful and unified in a way that only nature could be.
In lieu of sharing food and drink, he elects to sit on the dock where it faces the body of water that glitters under the sun. When he's not there, watching the water pushed by the wind he can be found outside on the wrap-around porch under the shade with his hands in his lap, as still as a statue.
[this is what happens when you play an antisocial angel still licking his wounds and grappling with his mental health. you get uninspired weird wallflower prompts for others to play with. i am so sorry. feel free to throw whatever prompt you want at me, in the midst of the speech, on his way outside, etc. throw me a curveball bc i honestly love that shit. i can be found at
