[ CLOSED ] I've been tryna catch a fever dream
Who: Ciri and Viktor; later, Jayce
When: early June
Where: the desert outside Cadens, the crater around the Singularity, the ocean!!, Aquila, Cadens again
What: it's an adventure!!!! that nobody asked for!!
Warnings: blood, violence (mostly against monsters, probably)
[ When Viktor reached out to her to ask if Ciri would be willing to go with him outside Cadens soon, she hadn't thought much of it. Viktor had always seemed so curious when she would come back with supplies for him, or specimens to study; and she loves talking about her work, and would often share details while he took notes, or answer question after question when he showed particular interest. It is perfectly expected, then, that he should want to explore on his own sometime -- or, rather, not on his own but with her accompaniment, considering he might have a difficult time by himself.
But Ciri doesn't ask questions. She helps find and rent a horse for the trip -- "probably just a few hours, back before nightfall," she tells the stable -- and meets Viktor at his workshop in the morning, upon the agreed time. It's early, barely sunrise, while the cool air still lingers and dew clings to the sparse vegetation.
Ciri walks up leading Nixie on one side, while her mare shoots dirty looks at the dun gelding she's picked out for Viktor, chosen for his easy temperament and the stable's promises that he's perfect for first-time riders.
Nixie's tail flicks impatiently. Ciri stops in front of the workshop, nudging her with a shoulder to push the two horses further apart. ]
You are being such a pest. [ The horse. Not Viktor.
Viktor gets a smile and a greeting. ]
Ready to go?

[ Jayce actually created so many things that Lee told him to get out of the shop and take a break multiple times. He's very lucky he is such a lucrative investment because Jayce can be a little much for everyone in his life. He is buzzing with anxious energy at the moment since he's so glad to see them, but this is him attempting to be subdued. ]
Oh. Yes. Obviously. Sorry.
[ He can't do healing out here on the street! Jayce laughs at himself, someone has to, but he looks sheepish and flushes a little too. ]
I'm not scary, I'm annoying.
[ He says to Viktor, as if Viktor doesn't already know that. He pushes his fluster away and calms down, focusing on her. ]
Wherever and whenever you're comfortable, Ciri.

[ Ciri actually laughs at that, a sound that bubbles up with relief now that they're finally safely here, just beyond the gates of a place she's come to think of -- tenuously, perhaps, but with some fondness -- as one of safety. Cadens isn't her home, but the little piece of it she shares with Geralt and Jaskier is.
She swings the sword over her good shoulder by the strap conveniently attached to its sheath (Jayce might be an overachiever) and looks between them. ]
I'll follow you. You live by the workshop, right? One moment.
[ There's not much else to carry. Ciri ducks away to take her leave of the merchant briefly, and now that she's back in a city where she has access to her coin, she promises to pay him at least in part, whatever he deems fair in addition to doing Jaskier a favor. Once that's done, she joins the two men again, ready to go. ]

The two of them wait patiently, even though Viktor knows Jayce is anything but patient, setting off as soon as everything is square. It's only now, out of the wagon, that he starts to realize just how exhausted he is by the whole ordeal. Still, he's glad to be back on his feet, out of the bumpy wagon, to make the last short walk to the workshop.]
Oh-- [He says, remembering something of vital importance and digging into his pockets with his free hand as they walk.] --we brought you some rocks.
no subject
He is impatient but for a reason, which Viktor is well aware of, but he wants to help Ciri and that can wait. Jayce's eyes widen when Viktor mentions the rocks, and if Ciri wondered why, she can see the way his smile lights up his face moments later. ]
You brought me rocks!
[ There are some unspoken reasons why this means a lot to him; Viktor wasn't talking to him when he left, but he still got him a rock, and kept it. Jayce opens the door to the workshop for both of them. It's very, very clean in there, everything organized, top to bottom, he had a lot of time on his hands waiting for them.]
Did he tell you I'm a collector? I know it sounds boring, but it's a hobby.
[ Jayce is legit more of a nerd than Viktor. ]
no subject
Jayce's enthusiasm earns him a snort and a shake of the head. ]
The two are not mutually exclusive, you know. It can be a boring hobby.
[ She's teasing. If he's happy with the rock, that's very nice for him and Viktor and she is happy for them. Moreover, she's a little surprised Viktor managed to hold onto the rocks and bring them all the way back here.
Ciri steps inside when the door is opened for her. As a frequent visitor of the workshop, she immediately recognizes the evidence of restless hands at work over the past couple weeks. ]

He rolls his eyes a little and makes his way further into the workshop, taking note of the fact that Jayce seems to have been very industrious. He'll leave the two of them to their own (healing) devices as he goes through his own things, though after a moment he does look up.]
Jayce, we shouldn't keep her. [She has her own business to take care of and people to catch up with. Viktor offers a nod to indicate that if Jayce is going to heal her, he should go ahead and do it--with her permission, of course.]
no subject
[ Jayce pulls up a stool for her and gestures for her to take a seat. It'll be easier if she's still and comfortable. He ignores Viktor, like he wants to spend any more time not catching up the two of them, but focuses entirely on Ciri. ]
Can you tell me where the worst injuries are? I can probably do a lot of it myself, but I'd recommend going to Nadine later, she's the best at salves and aftercare I know.
[ Jayce's healing can easily take care of deep cuts and heal over wounds, bruises, most surface-level injuries and the surrounding areas, but in a way, he and Nadine can be a pretty good team. They've been studying together for awhile now. ]

[ Ciri mutters, but the annoyance is a fond sort. Once seated, she unlaces the front of her blouse and tugs it off, apparently unbothered to be left in her bra and some bandages across her shoulder. These, she indicates. ]
A couple of gashes across the shoulder blade back there. Viktor stitched them up for me. Did a pretty good job, too, from what I could tell.
Other than that, mostly cuts and bruises. Half-healed already.
[ There are plenty of those, scrapes and fading bruises, some particularly colorful arrays of them across her upper back and neck but largely on their way to healing. Beyond that, there's plenty of evidence of dozens of old injuries, scars on her arms and torso and others on her back; clearly, there's a reason she's treating this as a mundanity. Still, even if she is used to it, Ciri is happy to accept magical healing and not have to deal with the whole process if it can be helped. ]

[Viktor knows basic first aid, but actually suturing a wound was a new experience for him, even knowing how it works in principle. Still, it seems to be healing cleanly, which is probably the most they could have asked for, given the circumstances. Jayce has been adamant that his healing magic has improved, so if Ciri is willing, Viktor is sure heβll be glad for the practice.]
I imagine Nadine will want to see me as well, as soon as she hears.
[Perhaps, maybe, a roundabout way of asking who might know about their little trip, at this point.]
no subject
Okay, just breathe.
[ Jayce told Viktor that learning medicine at the same time as healing magic has been genuinely helpful, and he's often with Nadine as they take their classes together. It's true, knowing anatomy much more detailed has helped. He takes the bandages off and it's true, Viktor did do a good job on the fly. Better than Jayce probably would have, but he's always been good with precision.
He puts a gentle hand on her shoulder and the other on her upper back. She'll feel a surge of warmth almost to the point of heat as Jayce's magic pours into the wound and patches it up. He can do deep gashes easily now, and the other hand works to at least take some of the bruising on her neck and back to a lighter ache than before. ]
Does Nadine know? For the record I did speak to Jaskier to get your cane back, but I only told him you two went to Aquila.
[ Exactly as Ciri asked him to say if anyone asked. ]

The warmth feels a little weird and tingly, but after it fades, Ciri suddenly realizes how much lingering pain she'd just gotten used to has simply gone away now. She waits until he pulls away to move, testing her arm and shoulder before reaching for her shirt again. ]
Impressive.
[ She shoots Viktor a look as if to say did you know? -- which of course he would, but it still made an impression. ]
I reached out to Julie to let her know when I'd be back, since she gets worried easily. Be surprised if Julie didn't tell Nadine. Or Jaskier. In any case, she likely knows, and won't let me escape without a checkup.
[ Jayce's earnest reassurance that he'd only told Jaskier what Ciri gave him permission to divulge is so charming -- and, frankly, a relief -- she actually laughs. ]
Good.
And since you mention it, I'm sure he'll want to know all the news from Aquila sooner rather than later. If I take much longer, I'm afraid you'll have a tempestuous bard knocking down your door.
no subject
I'm sure word of our absence has circulated.
[That said, after this exchange is finished, Viktor does not care who will be knocking on their door. He will not be answering.]
We don't want to keep you. Thank you, Ciri. Sincerely.
no subject
Thank you, Ciri. Come by when you're ready and we can talk about the design you might want for your own blade.
[ Jayce brought her a very good one, but it isn't one she chose, and he wants her to have the very best, exactly what she wants, considering what she did for Viktor. He opens the door for her politely. ]
no subject
[ She nods at Jayce, offers a final wave of farewell at Viktor. ]
Take care of yourself. See you soon.
Enjoy your weird rocks, Jayce.
