[Ches isn't usually one for self-deprecation, but he still has to admit that a lot of the people here seem more important in the large scale than he'll ever be. Sure, he's the ruler of his own little domain, but his domain is just that - little. Just a farm and the surrounding territory, bordering up on two other wolf packs, in the middle of nowhere, near a tiny podunk town in the interior of British Columbia.
Thing is, he'd never really wanted to be important on a larger scale, never wanted to be a big shot or a big name in the government, hadn't wanted to be famous, not even as a kid. What he wants is to be the ruler of his own little domain and to do it well, to gain the trust of his people, to protect them and defend their territory and live a happy comfortable life. And that's what he's doing. So he can't be too terribly self-deprecating in the end.]
Ahhh, makes sense. I guess I'll stay in my little bubble where I'm important to a few people and couldn't be so easily replaced then.
[An easy smile, albeit with a bit of teeth.]
Nice of you to say, about farmers. We're mostly subsistence farmers, we mostly use what we farm to stay afloat, and sell some of it at the farmer's market, but it's a good life. Lots of hard work, but honest work, and good. And you're right, I'd rather not have any full-blown wars on my hands. It's come close, though I guess you could call it feuds more than wars. They can still get pretty violent and bloody though.
[A small concession, just a little hint of what really goes on at his farm. It's nice to hear that the man thinks this reminds him of home, though. It's always been a place Ches strived to make feel like home for new arrivals, and it's the same here in his Domain as it was at home. He wants it to be homey, welcoming, safe for people to stop by and visit or stay a while if they need somewhere peaceful to escape to.
Which is why the request that Ches grow something for him here isn't surprising or unwelcome.]
Sure, don't see why not. Mind if I ask what it is?
