They do use magic -- most of their technology is still partially based on magic, from what I can tell. I think they got scared of magic 'cause they don't like that they can't control the Singularity, and that's where the magic comes from, but honestly, that's some shit I ain't really cared to look into. There might be some shit about how they hate Thorne, too. Which, like, I get, 'cause Thorne's real hateable. So it could just be wound up in that.
