[ Julie doesn't hesitate, clutches Wanda back just as tightly, strokes her hair. Despite treating people as disposable for most of her life, Julie has always held a strong fear of being abandoned, unloved, of being found wanting when it comes to worth. Throwing people away after using them up was just a harsh defense mechanism, a way to convince herself that it didn't matter what they thought of her.

She's not stupid, despite what she tells herself. She's always known these things, her fucked up, maladaptive coping skills. She lies, she cheats, she steals, she hurts others because she would rather be the one who strikes first. Everyone has to be either predator or prey in life, and she would kill herself trying to climb to the apex sooner than she would accept being on the bottom of the food chain.

But she understands. Knows that feeling of worthlessness.

Nodding, Julie kisses Wanda's cheek before she watches her disappear. Allows the chairs to vanish as she looks at the portions of the cabin that have been resurrected.

When Wanda is able to return, she will find that the walls have been fully raised. The porch is solid again, not falling to pieces. The roof is devoid of its wide holes. Julie knows that she could rebuild the entire domain with a thought, make it exactly like it was, but that's not the point. Wanda has to make the foundation, has to fill the space herself. But Julie can help.

Lining the front of the porch, from corners to steps, there are flowers. Big bushes of pastel hydrangeas and azaleas, swarming with butterflies and bumblebees. Next to the front door, there's a white ceramic pot with a topiary studded in fuchsia roses. ]
