"It wouldn't surprise me. Sometimes I think no one fights harder than two groups of men who were once one."

Maybe that's cynicism talking, but he has few reasons to think it's not true. The Singularity, if it is everything he has heard other describe it as, would be more than enough to turn small differences between comrades into insurmountable disagreements and then some.
