I suppose the obvious question is what type of spell do you think your friend would like to use it for? Any number of these can be combined to make something useful, but useful is in the eye of the beholder.

[ Istredd for example would be interested in ways in which something can help him with his research. He has used potions and spells before to stay awake longer or renewed energy when flagging.
