This is not the first time Aloy has simply wishes for machines to fight, instead of whatever's going on here. The risen dead is out of her wheelhouse, and as someone who generally eschews superstition and attempts to find a real-world explanation for everything, she's come up empty here. Fitting the Singularity and its power into her worldview has been a challenge, to say the least.
The good (??) news is that she still knows how to fight, no matter what's on the receiving end of her bow and arrow. Securing the commune is familiar, and the routine of a patrol helps take her mind off what feels like the world coming to pieces around them, slowly but surely.
Billy has more than proven himself on their supply run, so when she passes through her route and finds him at one of the shrines, she offers him a nod.
