Mat pulls away only enough to look in Rhy's eyes, wanting to reassure him that he means it. He's staying right where he is for as long as the other man needs him. No one ought be left with just those memories. Doesn't matter that it was in the Horizon, things there seem just as real as here and now.

It's obvious the experience deeply rattled Rhy. How could it not? Just imaging what he's describing is enough to make Mat's insides go cold and tight. No, he's not about to go anywhere. If there's one point of morality Mat clings to, it's that he doesn't abandon or betray his friends. Certainly not when they need him.
