In the dark, his eyes follow the new voice. It's the sort of dripping sweetness that hides a knife. Whatever the taunt means to Inej, he guesses it's a wound she'd rather hold close. So he squeezes her hand again, making a silent pact not to pry.
As they continue down the corridor, he hopes she won't think it's weird that he hasn't let go. Holding onto her hand really does make it easier to get through this. The maze. Everything else.
"Sorry about the fire. It would make this place less creepy."
Maybe. Considering that Inej couldn't even see a way out from the top of the wall, his hopes for escape are dimming. They can't be trapped here forever, though, right?
