[ OPEN ] turkey-time and all that follows.
What: it's the time of year and with all these new faces as well as with everything going on, sam thinks it's time for another all summoned not!thanksgiving
Where: sam's horizon
When: end of November/beginning of December
Warnings: will update as necessary.
THE SETUP
As per Sam's invitation, come dinner time, his horizon is going to be full fall aesthetic. The trees will have changed, there will be a slight chill in the air (no matter how it's usually hotter than this in Louisiana in November), and everything will be decorated in prime Fall Decorations - so many pumpkins, so many candles, so much Hallmark Card Thanksgiving, minus any weird pilgrim/puritan bs. Inside the house will be a kind of organized chaos - tables and ingredients and food everywhere. Because while Sam could magic the whole meal together, he's much more about putting in the work, so this not!thanksgiving is old school. If you show up early, you will be assigned a job, and Sam can tell if you cheat and just Horizon something together.
Outside in the front lawn area is a large, long dining room table. Come dinner, it will be a picture-perfect image of a Thanksgiving Meal. Everything you could want and then more will be set out, and there will be a setting for everyone, no matter how many people show up. There's no seating arrangement, so find a place and take a seat, chat it up with whoever is to your right, left, or sitting across from you. The only magic that Sam is going to allow at this point is the fact that the table will always be the perfect size - whether that is smaller or larger. There is plenty of booze, plenty of food, and more than enough desserts, and Sam is really just looking for a casual, nice time of it.
Afterwards, there will be plenty of opportunities for more people to help - just imagine the dishes, y'all. But even then Sam will be playing host, making sure everyone has what they need, even if what they need is an Adirondack chair by a fire pit and a blanket to pass the hell out. Either way, his entire Horizon is open, save for the one room upstairs that is always locked. OOC INFO
- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, meet some people, put up a TL of your own!
- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you chaos too many issues. :)
- this is open to any and all Summoned, no matter loyalties or factions. Sam is going to be going overboard to be welcoming, especially to new faces. Even if your character didn't see the big invitation, feel free to have them invited by word of mouth.
- any questions? message me at disarmingly

lucky for her, it can just be a giant dinner. with everyone invited. she needs another reason to keep tabs on all the summoned, doesn't she?
when she arrives, sam's moved on to table decoration, setting out dishes and cups and weird little knick-knacks his mom used to swear were made the holiday special. he's still not certain about them, but it's part of the process, now, so here he is. which, of course, means that as soon as she approaches, sam is happy to shift focus, grinning and immediately reaching for the casserole dish - if anything, just to move it out of the way for him to hug her. ]
You questionin' me, woman? Of course, I have plenty of chairs. This isn't my first rodeo.
no subject
But she lets him take the casserole from her - with an instinctive careful, that's hot - and hugs him back after he sets it out of the way. She's grinning, because he just has that effect on the people around him and she's far from immune to it.
But that doesn't mean she doesn't continue to play with him, her expression skeptical. ]
Of course I'm questioning you. You invited all the Summoned to eat Thanksgiving dinner. Just the amount of Summoned in Thorne would make that a daunting project and I hear there's even more of us in your end of the world. And we both know Steve could probably finish a turkey off all on his own. [ Okay, maybe not, but that doesn't mean she's not prodding at him playfully even when he's not here to defend himself ] I hope you cooked a whole flock.

You should have seen the last time I invited everyone over. It was half as fun and twice as big. [ no, it wasn't, but sam will wink at her all the same as he moves to head back into the house and kitchen, assuming nat will follow. ]
Oh, I cooked more than a flock. Steve's not the only one with an appetite around these parts. Plus, I get to use modern appliances when I'm in here. You try cooking a feast with weird steampunk-level equipment. [ he shudders - though it's more dramatics than anything - as the casserole is going to go right on into the oven to keep warm. ]

But she follows him into the house, taking in everything as they go and noting the others who have already arrived as well, nodding to a few familiar faces in greeting, although she continued to follow Sam into the kitchen for now. ]
Well of course. I wasn't here yet. [ She casts him a sly grin, as if it should be obvious that she made any party twice as fun just by showing up.
But his shuddered complaint gets a laugh from her as she moves to hop up and perch on a free slot of counter, far away from any of the food prep he'd clearly been immersed in. ]
I'd say I have it easier in Thorne, where we've got a castle full of servants to do it all for us instead, but I'm not sure the trade-off of everything else makes the free service worth it.

as they walk inside, she'll notice the same thing everyone else does - that the house looks clean but a little messy, with way too many photos on the walls than there should be. she probably wouldn't be able to tell that the photos have all been traded out with images of him and the people he's met here, but hey, that's some introspection for another time. ]
Obviously. [ he agrees with a grin in return. and then she's sitting up on the counter and he busies himself with the food and it feels...too familiar. too easy. so much so that sam has a brief second where it hits him that he shouldn't be allowed to feel like this. not when she's gone.
but that brief second passes quickly, and he's back to work again, shaking his head. ]
I had my time in Thorne and all I can say is that no one in that kitchen knew what they were doing. Plus, I'm not made for that whole 'political mindgames' vibe. I'll leave that to you to topple, thanks.
no subject
Of course she's heard about this by now. What had happened to the original Summoned, all called to Thorne. Had even spoken to Geralt about it. She just hadn't realized Sam had been one of them.
Her gaze jolts to his face as she still and studies him intently. ]
...You were among the first ones summoned?
no subject
he feels her eyes on him when he answers, can tell there's a kind of still focus in her question, but sam just keeps working. keeps his hands moving. he glances back to her if only so she can see his eyes, just for a brief moment, before he nods. ]
First group, yeah, by Ambrose himself.
no subject
[ She cocks her head to the side, studying him, even as her mind readjusts what she knows and slots him firmly at the start of it. She may have a lot of question to pick his brain about later. But she pushes them aside for now. This isn't the time or place for those conversations, no matter how much she might want to poke and prod at some of the giant holes in her knowledge of what's going on here.
So instead, she lets her lips quirk into a teasing smirk as she keeps the topic as light as she can. ]
Probably a good thing, I doubt Thorne was at all prepared to handle you. Especially since you tend to blow up buildings before you topple them.
no subject
god, he missed her. god, he needs to stop thinking about that every time they talk. ]
Hell, I don't know. They treated half of us like guests of honor over there, and when I tell you I miss those baths.... [ and then he's turning to her, one brow up, pointing with whatever utensil he has in his hands. ] And if any building needed to be blown up, I'd pick that castle. But hey, you're there, so maybe there's still a chance. I was not game of Thrones enough for that place.
no subject
[ Her lips twitch at the retort, fingertips tapping softly atop the counter. She grins at him, having missed this banter just as much. It had been a long five years without their friends, but the absence of Sam and Wanda were the ones she'd felt the most.
It wasn't something she was going to take for granted. ]
And please. Just because I'm fashionably late doesn't mean I need to make that kind of entrance. Let me build the anticipation a little.
no subject
[ because the banter is easier, he thinks, than dwelling on what the reality is for them outside of this place. it's nicer to remember, seamless to fall back into. she's had five years without it and he's coming up on three and he knows, he knows that's not necessarily a healthy mindset to have, but.
well - it's thanksgiving. sue him for wanting to spend it with family and to leave it at that.
her comment has him snorting, just as he finishes whatever it is he'd been keeping busy with. he picks up the casserole, or maybe it's just a side, and turns back to face her. ]
You take any more time and something insane is going to go down, trust me. They don't play around over there.
no subject
But she hops down off the counter then, grinning when he scoffs at her comments, more than happy to keep up the comfortable, playful banter between them. Sliding over to him, she drapes herself over one of his shoulders instead. Totally helping here, yup. ]
Oh, I'm not playing around, either. It's been a while since I had to infiltrate a monarchy. Should be fun. [ She has a really weird definition of fun. ] What can I help with? Because as delightful as watching you play Gordon Ramsey is, you might as well put me to work.
