[ OPEN ] turkey-time and all that follows.
What: it's the time of year and with all these new faces as well as with everything going on, sam thinks it's time for another all summoned not!thanksgiving
Where: sam's horizon
When: end of November/beginning of December
Warnings: will update as necessary.
THE SETUP
As per Sam's invitation, come dinner time, his horizon is going to be full fall aesthetic. The trees will have changed, there will be a slight chill in the air (no matter how it's usually hotter than this in Louisiana in November), and everything will be decorated in prime Fall Decorations - so many pumpkins, so many candles, so much Hallmark Card Thanksgiving, minus any weird pilgrim/puritan bs. Inside the house will be a kind of organized chaos - tables and ingredients and food everywhere. Because while Sam could magic the whole meal together, he's much more about putting in the work, so this not!thanksgiving is old school. If you show up early, you will be assigned a job, and Sam can tell if you cheat and just Horizon something together.
Outside in the front lawn area is a large, long dining room table. Come dinner, it will be a picture-perfect image of a Thanksgiving Meal. Everything you could want and then more will be set out, and there will be a setting for everyone, no matter how many people show up. There's no seating arrangement, so find a place and take a seat, chat it up with whoever is to your right, left, or sitting across from you. The only magic that Sam is going to allow at this point is the fact that the table will always be the perfect size - whether that is smaller or larger. There is plenty of booze, plenty of food, and more than enough desserts, and Sam is really just looking for a casual, nice time of it.
Afterwards, there will be plenty of opportunities for more people to help - just imagine the dishes, y'all. But even then Sam will be playing host, making sure everyone has what they need, even if what they need is an Adirondack chair by a fire pit and a blanket to pass the hell out. Either way, his entire Horizon is open, save for the one room upstairs that is always locked. OOC INFO
- this is a totally open post! I've got a TL below for various scenarios you can find Sam, but otherwise have fun, meet some people, put up a TL of your own!
- Sam's only Rule is there will be no fighting. You want to duke it out? Take it somewhere else. There will not be warnings or second chances. Don't be an ass. This is his home, respect it, or he'll have your ass thrown out. He's not afraid of squaring up, but you will not be invited back if you chaos too many issues. :)
- this is open to any and all Summoned, no matter loyalties or factions. Sam is going to be going overboard to be welcoming, especially to new faces. Even if your character didn't see the big invitation, feel free to have them invited by word of mouth.

acceptance, he says.]
You accept me for what I am and despite what I've done. I would be a hypocrite to not give you the same in return.
[something that wanda can understand more than anything else is being accepted with no caveats or small print. she accepts him for who he is, what he does, just the same way that he does for her.]
As far as I am concerned, you do more good than I have ever done. [even if it's not a competition—] So, to me, nothing about you is something you should be apologetic about.
no subject
( though, it's not that bad and he's definitely had worse when he'd been in new york. he hadn't really gotten the worst of what abraxas has to offer, he knows.
he swallows and smiles slowly at her. )
So, hopefully that won't get too old. This seems to happen to me more often than not.
no subject
wanda doesn't think she's ever had anyone apologize to her before. matt offers it so willingly and earnestly, but she'd like for him to stop doing so much of that with her and to, instead, trust her more.
she knows he'll be sorry, but he can trust that she'll know and forgive him, either way.]
As long as you come back to me one way or the other. [with a small smile, she pulls away, leaning against him again, arm around his middle.] —Tony Stark apologized to me recently.
no subject
( matt doesn't know much about tony stark personally. he knows what he's presented himself as publicly but he doesn't know if he'd classify them as friends. they're...they know each other. and that's about it.
but he knows of his history with wanda, of the tension there so to hear that he'd apologized. huh. )
What brought that on?
no subject
all she can offer to his questions is a shrug.]
I think he's seen what happens to him. He gives his life, you know — to save everyone. [matt isn't quite there yet with thanos and the snap, so these are spoilers for him.] Suppose that puts things into perspective.
[but, well—]
I had been waiting for an apology from him my whole life, and now that I got it... I don't know, it just felt very anti-climatic.
[that's how things tend to go.]
no subject
( even if it was many years to late to be truly meaningful for her. he's still glad that she got it.
he smiles. )
And maybe it'll be easier to think of that part of your life now? It doesn't change what happened but it's — something. Something more than you had.
no subject
it made that anger she still felt inside completely fizzle out though. he isn't a constant in her life anymore, and she doesn't have to talk to him if she doesn't want to. things are just different for her now, overall.
glancing over at matt as he tries to put the apology into perspective, wanda can't help feeling glad that she can share this with him, instead of keeping what happened to herself. she presses her cheek against him, liking the comfort she gets from being here with him.]
Yeah.
[it's quiet, almost like she doesn't quite agree nor disagree.]
Have you talked to him much, or with any of the others? I think you and Steve have this thing now, huh?
no subject
( and despite his still ever present reservations about the avengers, he can agree that they are both good people, good men. )
We talk every so often. It's not consistent and we're not seeking each other out but —
( cadens what's that big a place. )
no subject
if matt keeps contact with sam and steve, though, at the very least she knows he's in good company. in company she can trust.]
Frank's not around anymore, is he?
[this is something she feels she's known for a while, but hated the idea of bringing it up. she knows things between he and matt were not exactly the best, but he had meant something to her, the short time that she knew him for.]
no subject
but no, just gone. he bows his head and gives it a shake. )
No, he's been gone for awhile.
( and matt hopes he's gone back to a better place than what he'd come from. but with frank castle, blood and darkness seemed to follow. that was something matt knew a lot about. )
no subject
she thinks that maybe he enjoyed having someone to have stupid fights with. boys and broken noses and black eyes, right? well, she really, really hopes it's back home where they return to, and not tossed somewhere else across this land or the multiverse.]
You're not — lonely, are you?
[though part of her knows that, growing up like he did, being alone was a big part of it. wanda just worries.]
no subject
( he thinks there's always going to be a sense of loneliness that clings to him just because of how he'd grown up. he'd been on his own for a long time and that's how he was used to handling things.
which made it hard when he had friends that wanted to help and he could only react by pushing them away. )
Frank would have never made this place work for him.
no subject
it's good that it won't be hanging over his head now, and it's also good that she's managed to surmise how affected he is by it at all.]
Give him some credit.
[though she knows that matt may not be all too wrong.]
—I hope you enjoy dinner and all that here. I guess it'll be enough to remind you Americans of home.
no subject
( so while it was an american holiday, it wasn't really matt's holiday. it was — something he knew about and something he and his dad maybe had a pizza for but turkey?
nah. )
Just because it's an American thing doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, you know. You can enjoy being around friends.
no subject
[she remembers, how simple and at times highly low in nutritional value some of his meals were. but it wasn't about what was healthy or what wasn't—it was about what it all represented.
about the memories he had with his dad.
wanda smiles and bumps her chin against his arm.]
You know that you don't have to convince me to stay, right? I already told you I would.
no subject
( since, like she said, she was already going to stay. he hums and leans in closer, kisses the top of her head. )
I'm hoping that you'll like being here not just with me but your friends too. I think they're really glad you're here.
( and very protective of her as well. )
wrap up?? heh
she hates how he is right, and how he makes her actually look at the bright side of the things he says.]
I'm supposed to be tough and mean, you know.
[but wanda leans in, close, and presses herself to his side. she appreciates very much what he's doing here for her—and as much as her friends would like to see her, too, wanda thinks she wants to sit with him just a little longer.]
