[ A contemplative look crosses his face. Not so much at stars being made of light and fire — if you wanted to get real poetic about it, sure, but that's not his speed — but at the idea of travelling the sea. The way he would stare out from the docks at ships leaving Earth's atmosphere; the way he could turn his head slightly, look at a seemingly endless expanse of water instead.
Only it wasn't endless. It just looked that way. ]
Huh. Yeah. I guess it kinda is like travelling the sea. We still call 'em ships, after all. Only you gotta bottle up and bring your own air with you. And you don't really see anyone, no. [ He pauses. ] No bugs or trees to look at up there, either.
[ It almost sounds lonely when he puts it that way; if he was the kind of person who could care about that, he'd actually reflect on it. But he's not. So instead, he takes in her laughter; feels an out-of-place warmth in his gut at hearing it, as though it's possible to feel anything good while locked up here.
Amos cocks his head at her query, looking ahead of him at nothing before meeting her eyes again. ]
Kinda, yeah. Where I came from before ending up here. Some rocks crashed into Earth. Massive ones. Enough to block out the sun for a bit, cause a nuclear winter. I spent, I dunno, couple of weeks in it, I think. Was ready to leave it all behind, but then, you know, the mines. [ His nonchalance slides at those last few words, an edge creeping into his voice, like there's only so much chatting with Hime can do before reminding him of where he is. He pauses on that thought for a moment, lets the silence sit there before shaking his head, once. ] One of your favourite places is like that? What d'you do there?
[ He can't really imagine willingly spending time somewhere so cold and miserable, but he also can't really imagine spending time out in nature, anyway. But he's pretty sure she didn't go mining for fun, so it is an honest question. Not that he'd ever intended to go back to Earth, to snow like that, but... it'd be better than being here, that's for sure. ]
