He'd say it was because Nero would have been more fussed if Dante had done or said something, but mostly Dante had a drink in one hand and a slice of cake in another and it would have been rude to just leave them on the deck for seagulls to eat or something. He's respecting the wildlife, here.
That doesn't mean Nero is free of him forever, though. It's later in the evening that he wanders down to the holding cell--erm, sick bay or whatever they're touting it as. For Nero, it probably feels like the former.
