[ This is a conversation Steve's had twice already, once with Sam and then again with Natasha. Everyone brings a slightly different perspective to it, though, and so he still hangs onto Wanda's words like a lifeline.

He's been grieving for years now, if he's honest. Not just Peggy, but the life and the world that had once been his, ripped away from him in an instant. He'd expected death that day that he'd crashed into the sea, not a different life in a different time with (mainly) different people.

All the same, they'd become his family. He'd carved out a place for himself against all odds, and he thought he'd moved on.

I would do anything to have some more time.

His head snaps up at that and he stares at Wanda for a good five seconds, just letting it sink in. He didn't think he was that tired, but maybe she's right. Whatever his thought process had been in that split second when he'd made the decision, he wonders if he'd regretted it. Maybe sometimes he had. Regret seems to follow him no matter what he does.

Heaving out an almost silent breath, he reaches out to wipe the tear from Wanda's cheek with his thumb. ]

Maybe you're right. I just don't know how I would have handled not being able to see any of you again. There was still a price that had to be paid. [ He frowns, returning his attention to the sketchpad as he adds those final finishing touches to the sketch. ] Here, though, we've got some second chances. I can't completely hate it because of that.

[ He gets more time with all of them. Even Natasha. He'll never be okay with the fact that they were brought here against their will, but now they have to make the most of it. ]
