"So you know more than I do."

He didn't look for more information himself. For a host of reasons. First, he didn't want to know, then it stopped mattering what the reasons were, only that it happened. Kell really wanted this place to be different. Somewhere where perhaps he can do what he wants, and not be tied by the will of others again. That did not really work out for him.

"What difference does it make if everyone but the person who makes the most important decisions is a wonderful person? They all could be saints, and the people will still die."

The King did step in though after the retaliation attack on the fields of Nott.

"I heard that he is the good one, but he still lets her do what she wants. He only does damage control after the fact. While he should have stepped in to prevent the disaster from happening. It's no solace to the people who lost everything they had that the king sends them some token help after their homes and fields burned to the ground, leaving them homeless and destitute. This is not how royalty should behave."

This is not how he was taught it should.
