January Log [OPEN]

Who: Kavinsky and OPEN
When: Early to mid January
Where: Nocwich and Kingdom of Thorne
What: Getting a tattoo, relaxing in hot springs, and doing the turtle task quest
Warnings: Nudity in the second prompt

i. Nocwich

[Kavinsky could be found stepping out of one of the tattoo parlors, where he'd just gotten a crown inked onto his chest, just below his collarbone. He'd talked before about wanting to get a tattoo, and this wasn't the one he'd really been thinking about, but it was a good stepping stone. It was also easier to cover up, though right now it was readily visible thanks to the low collar of his shirt. The one he really wanted would take considerably more time and more money, and though he had both of those things right now, he was trying not to draw too much attention to himself. As if he didn't stand out a little already by wearing white-rimmed sunglasses. In Nocwich. Where it was eternally dark.

He took a moment to admire his new tattoo in the reflection in the shop's window before turning.

Comment on his tattoo? Sunglasses? Something else?]

ii. Nocwich 2

[On a good day, Kavinsky didn't possess much shame. Today, as far as days went, was a pretty good one. He was sporting his new tattoo, as previously mentioned, and had discovered the hot springs. Which was to say, he wasn't wearing anything while he lounged in the hot water, careful to keep his tattoo dry. He'd never had one before but he didn't think he was supposed to be dipping it in hot springs already.

With his head leaned back and eyes closed, he was the picture of relaxed. Until he realized someone else was there. Cracking open an eye, he smiled.]

Water's great if you were wondering.

iii. Turtle Task | Thorne

[Sometimes, Kavinsky liked animals better than people. Animals didn't care about rumors or try to be your friend just to use you. So when he heard about the beached sea turtle, he found himself much more interested than if it'd been a ship run aground or something like that.

Since getting back on his feet, so to speak, and with his ability to dream mostly uninterrupted, he dressed somewhat differently than the natives and other Summoned. That said, a gray t-shirt and tan cargo pants might not have been entirely appropriate beach wear, but they suited him just fine. Besides, there were plenty of places to stash things like a pocket knife or a particularly small gun. Or both. You never knew when you'd need a weapon, sometimes.

Like for those birds. He'd been half tempted to shoot one at first, or at least fire into the air to scare them off, but it'd been impressed upon him that they weren't to be harmed, either. So that was why he had his hands full of an enchanted net while he watched the birds with more than a casual intensity. As soon as they'd gone for the sand crab bait, he flung the net neatly over them, moving in to make sure none of them escaped.

Except when he grabbed for one, it squawked indignantly and raked its talons across his arm even as he yanked back. The resulting wound wasn't as deep as it could have been, but fresh blood still welled up immediately on his pale skin.]

Little bitch.

[He said to the bird as he untangled it from the net and shoved it into a cage before inspecting his arm. He had no qualms about pressing the wounds to his shirt, even if it was sure to stain. He could get another, after all.

Turning to someone else who was also working to get the turtle back into the water, he simply said:]

Falconer gloves.
northerndragon: this is jon. he fights real good and we're proud of him. (right proper lad.)

[He is not sure why anyone would cover their eyes with some kind of dark glass mask when it's already night out here. Eternal night; it is a good thing that the Dead do not walk here, that no one here fears the dark of night as the Free Folk do. Though the Dead of his own world can walk at any hour, and the people of Nocwich... well, he isn't sure that their assumptions about why they were spared by the Heralds are true. Might be that they will one day have something to fear.

The way this man walks, he doesn't seem afraid of much. He's coming out of the place where artists will tattoo your skin, and the way his shirt hangs open makes it look like he's just sampled their work. A crown.

He feels as if he should say something; he recognizes the man from the halls of Castle Thorne.]

A crown? The work is fine.

[His tone makes it clear that he doesn't only mean "fine" in the sense of "adequate"; there's slight admiration in it.

Not sure why anyone would want the real thing, but people often want what they don't have, and many men want a crown.]

[OOC: Jon is probably kicking around in something like a dark grey doublet and black trousers.]

[Jon looks more closely at the crown.]

You a king back home?

[It seems unlikely; a king does not need to say that he is a king. Yet people come from many sorts of places, and what a king is like in one place, he may not be in another.]

I have thought of getting a wolf. A direwolf, for my father.

It always is.

[ Came the cheerful reply from Jesper as he starts casually undressing. His dramatic green coat is folded lovingly along with his layers of green and white, all pretty polished. Tall and very skinny, he has no shame as he slips into the water with a content sigh. Jesper always ends up here at least once or twice on the Nocwich weekends. ]

The Free Cities are in desert land, lots of sand.

[ Not every city is, but there's enough of it that it's all Jesper can see sometimes. It's not really his type, he is used to a port city with the smell of sea air and endless backstreets. Gray eyes focus on the fellow across from him. He has three tattoos himself: his gang tattoo on his right forearm, a protection tattoo on his left arm, a gun with the Wheel of Fortune arcana as the barrel. The latter was done right here too. ]

New tat, hmm? I know the look. Good not to get it wet.

[ Jesper assumes everyone's checking him out, his confidence is overflowing. He wears it too on his shoulders, this casual air of feeling completely comfortable in his skin. Relaxed into the water and sprawled comfortable against the side, gray eyes fixed on his hot springs partner. ]

The desert is boring, yeah. Cadens, not so much. It's not as exciting as the city I'm from, but I'm not into castles or farms, so.

[ Those are the other options and Jesper would hate to be in either. He likes his freedom too much and he already grew up on a farm, no thanks. When he arrived, he was lucky enough to be able to choose where he wanted to go, they let people swap that one time. And he stayed exactly where he was. ]

Well you've got a month until the next visit, you could save up.

[ Get that dragon tattoo! As for his own tattoos, he glances down at them and smiles. ]

Yeah, this one's from home, it's my gang's tat. [ He touches the Crow. Jesper never hesitates from admitting his roots, in Ketterdam being in a gang is like being any other type of worker. ] This one is some kind of protection sign, from possession, according to another Summoned. [ He taps the supernatural tat. Dean gave that to him himself at the inn. ]

I got this one here the first weekend we were here. Did you get the glowing ink? [ Jesper means the gun with the arcana symbol in it. It does have the glowing ink on the symbol itself, he thought that would be very fetching. ]

Don't know about the next one yet.

A port city called Ketterdam. A beautiful and murderous kind of place. Made up mostly of merchants and criminals, and sometimes both. Lots of back alleys and dealings, but quite lovely when climbing up on a roof and looking at the ships coming in.

[ Jesper sounds genuinely fond of it, as it is his description of his home, and therefore accurate. It is true that much of the time the merchants are the worst criminals of all. A merchant and money ruling class, with everyone else scraping by, but that's what makes it fun for him. There are a lot of people who would not find Ketterdam beautiful the way he does, but sometimes those views are hard to deny in their splendor. The reference to criminals is probably an answer about the gangs in itself.]

What about you?

[ He smiles and nods about his tattoos being badass, they definitely are. He doesn't really have a sense of fake humility. Only permanent swaggering confidence. Jesper thinks the design sounds good, looking at his tat he got here. ]

Yeah, I put the glow only on the arcana part for the aesthetic. It's mine, the Wheel of Fortune. The sign for witty free spirits.

[ Also for gamblers and schemers, which fit him to a T, but the other Wheels he knows have his same energetic wildness. ]

I actually grew up on a farm in the middle of nowhere. Not enough young people around to even have a party. So I get the boredom. Ran off for school and then decided school was boring too, compared to a life of adventure.

[ And while it was all criminal adventure, he definitely would still say it was that. An adventure to an ice prison where they drove a tank out of the enemy's wall. Pretty fun! The almost dying a bunch of times was also fun since they survived to tell the tale. He's sympathetic though, obviously, having been in a boring place before. He shed his farmboy status as soon as he could. ]

That was good of you to give them something to do. Few things worse than mindless tedium.

[ For Jesper he would rather take a bullet (non-fatal) than be bored like he was as a youth. And at least Abraxas is not boring in the slightest. He's in the hot springs in a werewolf-vampire middle ground. Far from boring. As for the signs, hmmmmm, he shrugs. ]

They say it's apparently a symbol for who you are personally. The other Wheels I've met are very like me, so I'd say we as a test group would agree with that.

[ Mat, Julie, Claude, and Jesper are not all precisely alike, they have their own unique points of view and styles, but there is something similar in their spirit. And he believes it drew him to them. ]

The Devil's the one about being unique and independent, if I remember right. Would you say that doesn't fit you?
