[Alucard, not the time and the place to get angry. He shakes his head, hoping that will dislodge the immediate anger and allow him to focus on the important part.]

Gotten yourself out of a tiny, cramped room full of mixed at best memories and allowed yourself to thrive. So, how many skulls do you want?

[She shrugs, quick and loose, focuses in on his second question in the hope he'll forget about the first. She suspects he wouldn't be thrilled about the answer.]

You have a point. It just seems all kinds of crazy, you know? I'm used to living in dark, cramped shitty little rooms full of mixed at best memories. Having all this room just for me and my stuff seems...I dunno. Like totally exorbitant hedonism.

[Which sounds kinda fancy when she says it like that, and not at all terrible. She earnt the money used to rent this place. She earnt this.]

Fuck it. As for the skulls...a tasteful amount? Like, I want it to be all hardcore and fierce and shit, but also classy. Maybe twenty.

You're talking to someone who has an elaborate cave house in the desert. I can't relate to it feeling hedonistic. Just normal.

Perhaps....hm. Maybe I'm jumping ahead in thinking about skull count. Let me ask the most important thing first: do you want to keep the walls as they are, or change the color? If so, what color? [To make the point, Alucard seats himself atop one of the kitchen counters.]

Think about my office. We have a lot of jewel tones, and I've relied on golds and silvers to bring that out more. So in theory, we could do a dark, rich blue with gold accents, glass, and then have the skulls connected to gold and glass mounts.

[Turns out having the hots for someone who literally owned you makes for a weird dynamic. Go figure.

She sticks her tongue out and makes a rude noise as Alucard makes himself at home on her countertop. Makes a lewd gesture with one hand.]

Yeah yeah, we can't all be fancy boys with our own castles.

[She moves to lean against the countertop beside him, still surveying the wide open space of her apartment. Her apartment! Over on the window seat, the Leosylph finishes preening before curling up for a nap; the seat is just bare wood right now, does not look like a cosy spot to Gideon. But it could be, if it had a bunch of cushions and stuff. Colours though-- that's a tough one. It’s not something she’s ever really considered until now.]

Well, the faded old white has got to go. White is not my colour. But then I don't really know what is? I'd say black but I guess half the point is to move away from feeling like I'm shut up in a tomb. Dark blue could work though...and gold sounds fancy as fuck.

--You've got me there, even though I will point out it isn't like I had a choice in the matter.

[Alucard leans back, his shoulders bumping against the cabinets. There's so much light. The Leosylph absolutely needs pillows. He...actually has some thoughts on skulls. But color first, and Alucard makes a soft sound of consideration.]

You can get away with darker colors because of all the natural light. I'll bring some paint samples by tomorrow - we can put a few options on the wall and see what speaks to you most. Now, do you want me to just go into the desert and get some skulls or what?

[Her eyes move slow over the walls with their flaking white paint, bare brick exposed in leprous patches. She's trying to visualise what it could become were the walls a deep blue or a muted red or black as pitch-dark night...but this is new territory. All she can see is what is already there. She blows air through her lips, ruffling her mussed-up hair and clearing it back from her eyes. Who knew this shit was so complicated.]

I think you'd better. [She admits, although the physical act of painting sounds like it could be fun.] And you know, I didn't really think of that part. The desert has to be the best bet though, I kinda get the feeling that the people of Cadens don't follow the finders keepers rule about the bones of their dead. They'd probably be pretty pissed if we took a bunch from the cemetery

Gideon, I would be pretty pissed off if you took a bunch of bones from the cemetery.

[For emphasis, Alucard lets his fangs extend a little. He has worked too goddamn hard reburying the dead to have someone else go in and fuck with that. Especially a friend.]

We....should also get you more furniture. It shouldn't echo as much as it does here.

[The look on his face-- she can't help herself. She bursts into a peel of bright laughter.]

Dude, c'mon. I'm not a necro. I do not get my kicks scrubbing around in old graves, stealing bones. Although I guess it really isn't considered stealing where I'm from. There really is a finders keepers rule.

[The furniture can wait just a moment; she wants to see his reaction to this first.]

[Alucard stares at Gideon, flat. Dead eyed. Exhausted.]

I continue to have an infinite number of questions about your home planet, and they almost all end up as why?

[She could give him reasons. Serious ones. The sort that would make Harrowhark proud. But instead she pulls a face and shrugs, both hands raised in a beats me gesture.]

Because I'm from a freaky bone cult, I guess. You know, if I ever wound up back there somehow and like, still had a body and shit, I'd have some fucking questions.

[To put it lightly.]

Buuuuuut since it looks like grave robbing is out, the desert is in. Unless it's some kinda sacrilege to take the bones of dead animals?

[She’s guessing the answer is no, but hey, it doesn’t hurt to check. Not after Al’s graveyard reaction.]

I mean every question should be answered with a resounding fuck you, based on past information.

[Look. Look, Alucard would set that place on fire and be real happy about it.]

It isn't to my knowledge. Are you proposing that we go together, or would you like me to just bring back a selection?

[She doesn't disagree; the more she thinks about everything that happened the more she thinks to herself-- what the fuck?

But she lets it slide. Decides to focus on the now.]

Together would probably be more fun.

[Is there an edge to her voice? Maybe. The pit may be behind her now, but it's hard to let go of the feeling of tension that rises up in her when she thinks of him heading off to some secluded location alone.]

--A desert road trip it is. [That's fair, they can lurk in his not-a-crypt and--

the edge gives him a little pause. Not that Alucard is going to say anything, he promised he'd never ask, but. Shit. It sounds like some of his edge after arriving in this place.]

But for now, I could show you one or two of the recipes in the book? That way you can see what the process is supposed to look like before trying.

[She nods then, glad of the change in focus. Suspects it may have been deliberate on his part...but feels only quietly thankful for it.]

Sounds like a plan. I am fucking starving. Like, about to waste away at any given moment, starving.
