I know you like your neatly set instructions, [as does she, truth be told] but a lot about the human experience is about... a feeling. Whatever feels right.
[she steps to the side after she's done with her instructions, knowing that michael isn't entirely looking for a lesson on humanity. she offers it nevertheless.
and turns her head to him as she returns to another floury mix.]
Sometimes we just — make the choices we think are right in the moment.
[much like her pact with soris.]

Yes, I've noticed you humans often act on feelings before logic.
[Some angels, too.
So, they're doing it like this—putting a costume over their recent disagreement so they can talk about it without addressing it directly. Fortunately Michael isn't as literal as some of his younger siblings. He can read between the lines.]
Not always the best choice for the bread, nor the baker.
[He'd based his addition of flour on what felt right to him, and he'd been way off the mark. Josie receives a dry, cracker-like bread and Michael doesn't get the satisfaction of a job well done. No one wins.
Michael directs his attention to a handwritten recipe card. It's not quite time for it yet, but he may as well work on measuring out the ingredients for the pie filling.]

she is not wavering in her choices, in her decision; she needs to be clear about that. even if most everyone who has gotten to know what that decision was has reacted negatively to it. she knows it's worry, she knows it's concern—she doesn't exactly have the best track record with allowing herself to be influenced by something outside of her scope of understanding. still, she wishes her choices mattered, that she was given a chance to grow and be accountable for what she's done and will do.
she would like to think that she knows better by now.]
Perhaps not always, but even if something works one way 99% of the time, there's always that 1% of the times that a different route will work just as well—or even better, depending on the circumstances.
[numbers — they can work with numbers.]
Even if the probabilities are small.
[frowning, she keeps her attention where her hands are, trying to keep steady in the face of having to explain herself. the next thing she says isn't quite so implicit.]
I can't let myself think that all my choices were wrong ones. For once, I can finally— make use of my magic for something that can help others. Even if it means burning myself in the process, I can protect others — I can save them. [the pinch on her expression deepens] Whatever consequences come after, I can worry about them later. Fix them later.
The good guys always find a solution in the end.
[and she wants, so desperately, to be considered good.]
