WELCOME TO THE FREE CITIES!

WELCOME TO THE FREE CITIES!
Welcome to The Free Cities! The portal exits outside the capital city of Cadens. The first impression of the city is its sheer size. It sprawls out across the landscape like a great hulking beast at rest. The wall that encircles it barely contains it, the buildings of Cadens practically bulging against its restraint.

The air here seems thicker somehow, tinged with a scent that’s acrid and smoky. Smog hangs high over the city, belched out by smokestacks that tower over the industrial district. The desert stretches out behind it, dotted with towers and dust clouds that disappear into the horizon. Multiple gates lead inside and each is staffed by soldiers in unfamiliar uniforms that wave a steady stream of people through without appearing to pay much attention. People are coming and going almost all of the time, to and from the outposts and areas of activity around the city proper. It’s difficult to tell just what’s out there beyond the impression of tall metal structures and a great deal of labor. Wagons carrying travelers to Libertas and Aquila roll out from the Travel Post outside the city wall.

Anyone who can sense magic will notice a much lower concentration here. No one will be stopped or questioned at the gate, even if the soldiers seem to take note of the fugitives from Thorne.

The activity and sheer number of citizens can be overwhelming. It’s crowded and loud and feels constantly in motion with everyone talking and yelling over each other. It’s easy to get swept up in the ever-moving throng or find oneself ducking into the mouth of a narrow alley just to breathe.

Anyone who’s willing to make their way to the northern part of the city and Portham Hall will find Prime Minister Marlo Reiner available to receive them.

she would never eat him without consent. hraes and shiva were very open

[ Truthfully it's an easy enough thing to offer in Horizon, where she could pluck a fresh one from her tail and instantly grow it back. In person, well...decidedly more difficult and painful, and not something she would do on a whim. (Mayhaps she can provide him some of her shed someday if he really is that keen.)

Though he does make a tempting offer. ]

You would give me my weight in grapes and wine ere we meet again in person?

[ If that's not what he meant, that's exactly how she's taking it. ]

I accept!
cointosser: (Default)

Jaskier agrees consent is very important, especially in vore

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-10-06 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Er --

[Oh, that is very far from what he meant, actually. Not that he wouldn't be utterly glutted on the idea of having his own vineyard outside of Thorne somewhere. Cadens isn't very much built for it, but out there across the desert -- a fine vineyard with the sweetest, coldest grapes, and wine to sell, and plenty of coin to travel where he wished.

But that was all a dream. Which is why he has it in Horizon in the first place.]

You know what? If I can afford to, then why not? [She's already agreed, so! He takes her hand and gives it a rowdy shake.] But I'll take one here, too. I have a growing collection of beloved items already.

[personal profile] aquaveiled 2021-10-11 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ He can't back out now! Well, he could, but she would be terribly disappointed.

Either way, producing the scale in Horizon is a simple process. With a nod, her tail lifts to curve up and around her middle so that she can lay the bottom half in her waiting hand. She taps her nails along the underside...no, too smooth. Something to make an impact, right? But the larger scales right along the spine may be too much for this man to handle.

She decides that in between is the best, that transition between the softer, smoother scales of her underbelly and the large, pointed and protective scales along the top. Curling her nail around the edge, she simply wills the scale loosen enough that she can pluck it like a flower petal from the rest.

No pain! If only it were that easy in real life.

With that, her tail uncurls and she holds the scale out to Jaskier, turning it slowly as it shines almost pearlescent in the light. ]

I hope this will suffice?
cointosser: ([068])

crossaint

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-10-13 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
[It isn't that he's so much not seen a tail before in his life. Obviously he has. But seeing it attached to a beautiful woman is... a treat. Seeing the sinuous way it moves through the air and into her waiting palm in an all-too-human way, like lifting something with an arm --

Oooh. This is definitely awakening things in him. The things a tail could do. With all those scales --

He hopes Himeka did not notice his (light) shiver.

His eyes nearly glow with the urge to simply snatch it out of her hand. But he takes it in a very slow and dignified way, like a knight accepting a sword on his shoulder. Except Jaskier looks like a child being given an entire cake to himself.]

I... it more than suffices, my lady. [It's beautiful. He turns it in his hands and lets the Horizon's sunlight shimmer over the color.] It's possibly the most divine thing I own.

jaskier's rolls an 18 on his Charisma check and it was just a DC10

[personal profile] aquaveiled 2021-10-13 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ Were he to ask, she would confirm with little reserve that, yes, they can do things with their tails and that is part of what makes the entire process so enjoyable. (Really, she feels sorry for those who don't have a tail, leaving her to find other things to grip onto. But no everyone can be as fortunate, she supposes.)

Himeka does not notice the shiver, somewhat preoccupied with her own show of extracting the scale which is definitely at least a little for the drama of it with more finesse and a lot less blood. She expects him to be grateful as he has been nothing but polite to her, but the reverence itself is a little more than anticipated.

She's used to hearing acclaim on her abilities and from her reputation, but rarely just related to who she is beyond it. Proud as she is of her scales and heritage, it's a deeper compliment than he may realize. And certainly enough to sober her up just a bit. ]

Praise that high is doubtlessly flattery.

[ There's no hiding the way her tail swishes to-and-fro happily, though. ]

But I'll take it gladly.

[ Ahem. ]

It comes with conditions, of course.

[ Apparently conditions she failed to mention earlier. That's okay, because she only just thought them up. ]
cointosser: ([044])

he truly does not deserve these high rolls, thank you RNGods

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-10-15 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
I shan't promise I never flatter, but I certainly am not in this case. [All right, he would argue that he doesn't flatter practically ever, because all of his compliments are fully sincere. Mostly. Usually.

But the way he holds the scale reverently in his hands... he has come to view dragons as something very special. Perhaps because they are the one that got away, so to speak. Until now.

He isn't even sure what to do with it. Place it on his wagon? Could he make it into jewelry? He's not sure if that would be an insult to the dragon that gave it to him. And now, looking at it, the memories of Hemera. The great dragon bowing its head to him. The dragonlets.

He holds the scale to his chest. That place, that domain, was especially precious to him.

With conditions.

He jerks his head up.]
W -- wait a moment. You never mentioned conditions! I'm not selling myself into servitude, am I?

[Well. He could think of worse people to be indebted into servitude to...]

[ Selling himself into servitude? She hadn't considered that as an option, but quickly dismissing the idea. In the end that would be terribly boring when she prefers to do most things herself. Not because she doesn't trust other people to do so, but because she just enjoys being busy.

Although if he wanted to be the one to scour over tomes for bells at a time, she certainly wouldn't argue... ]

No, no--no need to worry about that.

[ Himeka shakes her head with an amused smile while waving her hand as if shooing the notion out of the air between them. ]

But by accepting this you are agreeing that we're bonded now.

[ Well...sort of. ]
cointosser: ([070])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-10-29 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Whew! [He puts his hands on his hips with a real deep breath.] I mean, not that I think you'd ever be so evil or scheme-y, of course.

[Of course. Though he does feel like... she may have paused over the idea... for too long a moment.

Well, it was --]

Bonded? [His brows raise. That doesn't sound terrible, actually. He likes bonds. Has all sorts of bonds. Friends, loved ones. Family is... [garbled noises]. Bonds for his hands and feet and bedposts. All sorts.] I figured we were already, in a way. [Given the Thorne shenanigans, and that he very much likes Himeka already.] That doesn't sound terrible at all.

[Shouldn't he ask what that means? Ah. Nah.] Right, then. I agree whole-heartedly!
aquaveiled: (himeka-161)

[personal profile] aquaveiled 2021-11-02 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ She claps her hands together. ]

Great!

[ Should she feel any sense of pity for his lake of forethought? No, not at all, as it's exactly the same kind of thing she would readily jump into without questioning the motives or consequences as well. Who doesn't want to make friends? She makes friends with people she shouldn't even be talking to. It's fine.

With that, she happily plucks a few more grapes. He did say she could have as many as she wanted, after all, and pops them in her mouth one at a time as she continues unbothered by manners. ]

You would typically offer me a scale in turn before the official ceremony, though since you have none...

[ Hmmm. She taps her chin for show as she looks Jaskier up and down. ]

I could take a fingernail. That's close, right?

[ Okay, she is joking about that, but she'll let him sweat for a moment as she chews thoughtfully on another grape. ]

But I would settle for some hair instead.
cointosser: ([041])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-11-05 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
[It's definitely going to be fine. When has charging into something without possibly writing out the consequences of said charging ever worked against him?

Come to think of it. It didn't actually work against him that often --]

O -- official ceremony?

[Wait, he hasn't scales. That's exactly why the gift of hers is so... not sacred, exactly, but appreciated.

Sacred?? Ceremony?]

Ahh! What? No, that's nothing alike! That is the very opposite, in fact! [He sweats. He sweats and takes several steps back, exactly -- she is a dragon, after all. He has no fucking idea what dragons would even think of taking his fingernails --

Oh. She was joking. (Probably??) He settles a hand over his chest, his heart jumping.]
Yes. Yes, hair is the much better option, thank you.

[He doesn't think much of that, especially considering that his first week in Thorne, he just gave a mage a bit of his saliva for, er, magic rocks in return. He reaches up for a lock of hair near his neck, a small knife appearing in his hand. It comes off smoothly, in a lock that he ties together with a dark blue ribbon.]

Here, my lady. To tide you over until our exchange in the real plane.
aquaveiled: (himeka-173)

[personal profile] aquaveiled 2021-11-08 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Why yes, of course.

[ She is appropriately amused at his moment of panic when she threatened his well-being with the fingernail. Absolutely worth it. (What is a bit of light teasing of bodily harm between friends, right?) Oft her attempts at teasing go horribly awry as she is usually the more gullible one. It is rather fun being on the other side.

But against her own (currently nefarious) tendencies, she really can't help but be a little endeared at how seriously he takes it regardless. Even though she is giving him almost nothing to go off, vague promises and threats. He even goes so far as to package the gift for her. Clearly this is a man she can trust or bury a body with if needed.

So Himeka takes his hair with a little more reverence than she has shown until that point, examining it for a moment before cocking her head to the side as she looks over at Jaskier. ]

Thank you.

[ That's all she says for the moment as she considers what she will do with it. Then after a quiet moment, his tied lock of hair floats in the air above her cupped palms, glowing and twisting in on itself as it begins to look more like heated metal than hyuran strands of hair. Once the glow fades a new object floats down gently into her hands.

Well, if she has creation magics here then she is sure as any of the seven hells going to use them. ]

In my village, it's customary to craft or have crafted that piece of the other person into something wearable, be it jewelry, a brooch, or mayhaps something as simple as having that scale woven in to your everyday coat.

[ What she's made appears to be some sort of twisted metal, the same brownish color as Jaskier's hair but with a coppery hue when it moves in the light. She places it on her left horn like a cuff. ]

The idea behind it is that you're never too far apart.
cointosser: ([033])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-11-09 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
[In the moment he hands it over, it suddenly occurs to him that could have also been some sort of joke. He is, after all, quickly learning that Himeka's sense of humor is one might call, uh, unique.

Oh. No. That sounded quite sincere, actually, which is relieving --

He stares at the bundle of hairs as it begins to float which, while not the most concerning thing he's seen in the Horizon, is a bit startling. It certainly looks like some sort of spell. But with Himeka's pretty face bathed in the unnatural light, he's loathe to stop her from whatever it is she means to do.

Turn hair into metal, apparently. That's.

Huh.]

Even if we're all the way across the world? [He looks down to the scale in his hands. It's a romantic notion. Very romantic, actually. He likes the sound of it. As if having a piece of another ensures you are not alone.

He is in the Horizon. And he would love to join her in this custom. As he considers the scale, a wonderful idea comes to him. He does not want to change the scale as it is -- he finds it quite beautiful -- but he can add onto it. As he holds it, the edges line themselves in fine gold, and then a ring of gold forms around the scale. A golden pin creates itself, tipped in silver and lined with rubies.

The scale makes a beautiful brooch, which he pins to the collar of his doublet with a smile.]
There. So we shall never be too far apart.

[ She gives a silent nod, indicating his assertion is correct. To have a piece of that other person with you--that they are ever close by and that you are never truly alone. Of course given that all beings are made of aether, albeit different types, the body and the soul being of two distinct classifications, your loved one isn't really there in spirit. But the sentiment fits all the same.

They may just be friends but she holds them in high esteem. (Higher than she ever did with her actual, albeit brief, engagement.)

What he does with her scale is quite touching. Rather than morph it into anything else, he simply accentuates it as if the scale alone is something precious. He really is a sweet man, isn't he?

Himeka claps both of her hands together in delight, her tail popping up once again. ]

I dare say it has never looked better.

[ A turn of events she hadn't anticipated, but it does make her a little homesick. Not a feeling she dwells on for long, filled with wanderlust as she is, but there are parts of her upbringing she still holds dear. ]

I hadn't come to visit with the intention of engagement, but I'm not upset.

[ On that note! She snaps off a sizable bunch of grapes to begin snacking once again. Important things. ]

You took the portal to the Free Cities, didn't you? I had wanted to see how you were doing and ask what it was like there.
cointosser: ([032])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-11-13 07:53 am (UTC)(link)
[It's so terribly hard to genuinely flatter Jaskier, but certainly a quiet surprise crosses his face at that compliment. It feels far heavier than what he thought this whole exchange could ever be, and her compliment even weightier. She's a dragon, practically a legend in his world, as rare as the creatures are. And, if Estinien is to be believed -- which he does, really -- she is a legend in her world, too.

It feels a true honor to wear her scale. To be uplifted by those words.

Until she says the most frightening word a serial polygamist can hear.

Jaskier swallows so loudly it's like a ball of metal hitting a bucket.]
En -- engagement?

[He stares at her as she eats his grapes (and as she plucks them off and pops them in her mouth, it's strange how those same plump globules grow right back where they were pulled from. His vineyard never runs dry.)

Ah. A joke. Another jape, of course; it's not completely out of the question to think he can't entirely grasp dragon humor. His laugh is a bit dry, and sounds a bit too literally like a "Hah." It's closer to an exhalation than a real laugh.]

Right. That's -- funny. [The word engagement rings about his head like a death knoll, and his pallor has not quite returned to its normal rosy hue. Hah. Engaged to a dragon. That's a laugh. Who would ever...?]

Ah, yes. [He desperately grabs the new topic like a lifeline.] Yes, the Free Cities. Cadens, in particular, is where we've set up. It's... it's rather nice, really. Far busier than Thorne, and the cities are populous and were eager to welcome us when we came.

[A bit suspiciously, if you ask him, but they've done nothing to follow up on that feeling.] Estinien came by here, too. He said you've set up in Solvunn? Some sort of... farming community?
aquaveiled: (himeka-079)

[ She may be a Fool but she is decidedly more perceptive than she oft lets on and the clear discomfort on Jaskier's end is hard to miss. Discomfort that she could easily alleviate with a bit of clarification that it is really only a local custom from her village that accompanies a proposal and is only as binding as the families involved see it.

But, you know. This is funny. And she thinks she needs a little more fun these days. ]

Mhmm.

[ So she simply nods and hums an affirmative in a sing-song way, not bothering to comment on it further. If he asks she will be inclined to reply, but most of her voiced lines have to be prompted. ][ Good to know, what little she does know about the places outside where they have travelled. That is how she prefers to learn, after all--going there herself and experiencing things in person. Having it second hand is really only preferable than having to sit around and read old papers and dusty tomes on things. Boring. ]

And eager? Were they anticipating your arrival?

[ Curious...Solvunn hadn't exactly been eager to see them, but they hadn't turned them all away. As long as someone could work for their share, they were welcome to stay. That was far more understandable. ]

Yes, it's very rural. Though we have been staying in the main settlement closer to town.

[ Understatement. ]

I wouldn't say they were eager, but they didn't turn us away and allow us to work for our keep.
cointosser: ([036])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-11-17 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
[This is torture.

Engagemenet? En-gage-ment. No, no matter how many times he rolls it in his head, it certainly sounds the same, with the same meaning. An engagement could be. A meeting. Yes. A thing to go to. A party. That's -- that's not close to how she used it.

She's talking. About things. They're very important things!

Really!

He's only a little. Overwhelmed.

Question. It's a good one. A prompt, straightforward one.]

Let me reconsider. I'm not sure eager is the right word. More like willing. And not entirely like they had planned it, but partly as if it wasn't surprising, either.

[Which begs the question of whether there is some sort of history in which a lot of people jumping through portals to fall into your city is not the most important event of the year.]

And Cadens offered limited help, only a place to stay for a night or two. We were only fortunate I have been collecting coin during my time in Thorne from performing. So now we have a tidy little place near their markets. [Before the Horizon, he would have said he could not imagine Estinien in a place that was rural. However, apparently a peasant farmer is the true core of his soul (besides the dragon.) Himeka, on the other hand --

To be fair, he has no idea what to make of her sometimes. She is like looking at splashes of paint on a canvas and piecing together what they form. Idiocy or brilliance? (Many have said the same of him, so it's not an insult.)]
What sort of work are you doing? Er... farmwork?

[How unfortunate.]
aquaveiled: (Default)

[personal profile] aquaveiled 2021-11-18 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
[ And she known that the concept would be such a shock and struggle for Jaskier, she may not have gone as far with the ruse as she did. Might.

Only time will tell if it's truly such a bothersome thought! She's perfectly content to help herself to his vineyards until then. ]

Not surprising that they would find a group of summoned peoples or that they would be fleeing Thorne?

[ Himeka asks as she pops another grape into her mouth, tail swishing happily behind her. Both seem equal parts possible. And, well, both raise questions in either direction. ]

Performing? Ah, of course! How wonderful that you were able to tend to your calling no matter the circumstances.

[ Meeting him in Horizon that first time had been all about music, after all. There aren't many things she could say she's equally as passionate about. She does admire that in people--passion and the resolve to see it through.

His expression says enough at what he thinks of tilling fields or caring for livestock. She does laugh a little at that. ]

Amongst other things. Estinien, Relena, and I are staying on a farm, though it's gone a bit into disarray in recent years. Estinien attends to the sheep and I have been doing what I can to work with the local elementals in rejuvenating the land they used to graze on...oh! But the other day I was doing a delivery for the local butcher and was able to trade with the blacksmith for the nicest iron pan I'd seen in years!
cointosser: ([032])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-11-19 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
[The more this conversation goes on, the more he can cull himself into believing that this engagement thing is really not a big deal. (But make no mistake, it's certainly on the back of his mind, stained there. He is not forgetting it anytime soon.)

Her question may not be as weighted as he takes it, but he does consider his answer before he gives it.]
A bit of both, honestly.

[It was not the way he'd be treating people falling out of a portal onto his estate, that was for certain. It was like open arms, and a hesitancy.

Or like a peoples happy to accept spies from their enemy. Surely there was no love lost between Thorne and the Free Cities simply based on their intentions with the Singularity. And now to have so suddenly acquired those with a connection to it...

He glances back up, losing the thread of thought. Right, his performing.]
As I always make effort to.

[The conversation of their circumstances is rather serious, yet he cannot stop the guffaw that slips out at the image of Estinien attending to sheep. Of course he does. He does it in his sleep! Or, well, the Horizon. He must've approached the task like a duck to water.]

My, a pan! Gods, Himeka, you sound like a housewife. [Not that it's a terrible thing, but considering Estinien's tales of her heroics...] And that sort of work suits you, doesn't it? [It sounded like real excitement, not a complaint.]] What about Solvunn? Are they as eager to have those connected to the Singularity? I read about them once or twice, but the information was...

[He rolls his hand through the air. Frankly, it was boring. Farms were boring.]

[ She nods, knowing it's important to learn what she can of the way the other factions perceive one another. Will she remember this at the time of need? Possibly. It depends on how much the juicy sweetness of these grapes outweigh the gravity of the situation. It may be a toss up. ]

I'd say it's nice to be well-received for a change...although you were already, weren't you?

[ That's how they met, after all--a curious Honored Guest wandering about in the dungeons. That cheese was exactly what she needed at the time and will always have a place in her heart, no matter how quickly it was devoured. ]

A housewife?

[ She looks at him with visible confusion. ]

I'm a culinarian, Jaskier.

[ Will she defend her numerous heroic exploits? Meh. Will she defend her title of Master Culinarian? To the fucking grave. ]

A good pan can last you a lifetime and who knows how long we'll be stuck here? Until we figure out how to wrangle this whole Singularity situation.

[ She waves her hand off and pops a few more grapes into her mouth as she continues. ]

I suppose? Mayhaps not as much as performing suits you. Estinien gets on well with the sheep, though the farm I grew up on was very different.

[ Solvunn's people, however...she finishes chewing first. ]

They are...well, they have been rather nonplussed about it, actually. I'd been expecting a little more distrust or confusion, but as long as we all do our part as members of the community, they seem perfectly content to allow us to stay.
cointosser: ([032])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-11-22 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
[He doesn't refute that, but it feels unfair to linger on it. He was treated, he imagines, much better than Himeka, especially after her attempt at escape.

Jaskier blinks in surprise. The admonishment comes so swiftly and so pointedly, his hand goes to his heart as if struck by an arrow]
Oh! My apologies! I had no idea you were so gifted in the culinary arts. You can blame Estinien on that one, it's one of your traits he failed to mention.

[He's only throwing him under the horsecart. A little.

Is he going to run out of grapes? Ah, fuck it. If they're here to converse and be comfortable (minus the engagement part), they should be actually comfortable. With a wave of his hand, he summons them a pair of elaborate chairs, large enough to curl up in if needed, and offers hers with a gesture. Ladies first.

A tiny table between them appears, and a line of grapes, like ants crawling up a hill, begin plucking themselves from the vines and nestling into the bowl. Less chance of eating little caterpillars or the sort (yes, he made caterpillars.)]
I find that as strange as our reception in the Free Cities. If I know anything of politics [And boy, he does,] they all are intending to use us. I simply cannot believe they are content with us taking their land, their coin, and their time, in exchange for... being citizens.

[He hasn't even been taxed, for gods's sake! That's simply suspicious on its own.]

[ Estinien hadn't deigned to regale the tails of her numerous victories in the kitchen? Impressing upon Eorzea's greatest? She should be offended. She really should. ]

Did he? Well, I suppose that's not too surprise, even though he is oft the one who gets to sample my latest creations.

[ Ungrateful. Is she going to give Estinien a hard time about this later? Absolutely. Thank you for bringing this clear slight on their friendship to light, Jaskier. It shall not be forgotten.

Himeka doesn't really need a table in chairs but she isn't going to refuse them when they're so kindly conjured up. Horizon really does make things convenient, doesn't it? So curl up she does, plopping right down into the chair and pulling her legs up onto the seat as her tail winds around to rest across her ankles, the every end twitching happily as the grapes simply line up to be devoured. The morbid nature of this death march is not beyond her, but they are too tasty to care. ]

Few refugee programs are so generous.

[ She nods in agreement as she starts helping herself to the bowl before turning her gaze back to Jaskier proper. ]

Even so...is Thorne really the only one with the understanding of our unique connection to the Singularity? I imagine they are just...you know, content for now to have us in their pocket. But I have clue what that will actually mean.
cointosser: ([011])

[personal profile] cointosser 2021-11-24 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Ugh. Estinien doesn't know how lucky he is. Geralt can roast a mean rabbit, but he is far from a culinarian. Ciri, is, well... certainly Geralt's progeny in that respect.

He falls into his own seat, hanging his feet off the side -- the height of luxury, truly -- and picks his own grapes to pop in his mouth. Alucard really knew what he was giving away here. The grapes are so clearly made for wine, but he can't help but find how they burst sour and turn sweet, with skin that always remains crisp, without a hint of the softness of rot, so delightful.

Everything always stays so perfect in the Horizon. (Hence the caterpillars. Break the monotony.)]

I hesitate to say one way or the other. Certainly Throne appears to have the most investment in the Singularity and, thus, us, but I feel it would be an ill mistake to underestimate what knowledge they may have, and how they mean to use it. With more and more of us appearing, I wonder... if one power will feel confident enough to press on the others.

[ He really doesn't. That is absolutely something that Estinien should be shamed for at a later date. Jaskier would certainly earn an edible reward for it.

As happy as she is to be out of the dungeons, lounging in plush seats in a vineyard is definitely a few steps above sleeping in a barn only a few fulms away from a cow with very active...bowels. Really the only thing this vineyard is missing are some plucky dragons to liven up the place. Every realm can use more dragons.

It's a fair question--bemusement, rather, than she chews thoughtfully as she considers it. ]

Mmmmm...

[ Himeka lets out a low hum as she cants her head to the side, gaze shifting from staring off into space to Jaskier. ]

Solvunn seems content enough with how things are? I guess as much as they can be given the circumstances. They really do believe we are all protected by the Gods. Such fervent devotion could mean they won't act unless they feel the need to at the bidding of their Gods...which, you know, only those who can speak with the Gods will know when and where that is. But they are eager for our participation should we offer it.

[Oh. That's an interesting bit of insight. While he read of Solvunn, the literary volumes in Thorne's library weren't the most complimentary.] I should have expected a farming community to be full of theologians. [There might be a touch of sarcasm to the comment. A touch.

It's only curious because of how deliberate it felt that the details of the gods were scrubbed out of the library's tomes. Does it mean anything? Probably not. Plenty of people get into tiffs over whose god is sexier or something. Jaskier doesn't really prescribe, though Melitele definitely has some of the nicer tits. On the younger side of her, at least.]

Interesting. And will you participate, oh Warrior? I'm asking only out of mere curiousity.

[It's funny to him, that it's becoming less and less likely for him to encounter the truly neutral. If any of them are anymore, really.]

[ Being beholden to a higher power, whether perceived or actual, is pretty par for the course in her experience. To end up in a community that believes so wholly in their own made it actually relatively easy to slip into some of the good graces of the locals by showing interest. But she feels like she's only just scratched the surface. ]

Farmers are very devout, whether it be about their stock or those that make it possible.

[ Her own upbringing was no different, thanking the kami and the spirits around them for a healthy harvest of oysters.

Jaskier's question draws a pause, but only a momentary one. She nods firmly immediately after. ]

Yes. It will be the easiest way to find out exactly what they believe, don't you think?
