I don't think I'll ever be able to understand how anyone can justify doing that to others.
[ She can't erase the experience he'd had, but she hopes she can at the very least offer some kind of comfort. ]
What's most important is that you're here now. And you're safe.
no subject
That we're all safe. That in itself, is miraculous.

I know that we haven't known each other very long, but if you want to talk about anything that happened I'm more than happy to be an ear to listen.
[ She pauses, trying to add some levity to her voice. ]
Or if you need a distraction then I'm also happy to try and provide that. Now that all of this is over I've started getting back into making jewelry again so I can regal you with all my trials and tribulations.

Why don't you tell me about your burgeoning business? My people were excellent craftsman and I've worked with some of the best.
no subject
[ Hilda's own face lights up - genuinely this time but also with curiosity. ]
I mean it isn't really a business. I only have a couple of pieces that I've made so far to get back into it. Did you do any of that sort of work yourself?
no subject
Not directly, but I helped facilitate the sharing of knowledge between dwarves and elves. And one such elf was a master at his craft.
no subject
Do you think you can recall any of them? I'd love to see an example for inspiration! I can probably conjure up some kind of example for what I'm working on too. I'd love your thoughts, Elrond.

[ As frivolous as the compliment sounds, Hilda is nothing but genuine.
When they're sat at the table and settled with their tea, Hilda conjures up the filagree bracers and lantern necklace she had been working on.
She slowly hands them to him piece by piece as she offers an explanation. ]
These are some of the pieces so far. The bracers are meant to fit over normal ones and help someone steady their aim. I incorporated some of the enchantment runes into the design but it still needs some testing. And the necklace is just meant to light up bright enough to help you light your way at night — but now I'm second guessing myself that that's a little silly.

What sort of metal have you used for the bracers? And the idea for the necklace is sound. You could imbue it with starlight. That is what we have used to light our way.
no subject
[ Her eyes light up curiously at the suggestion at the same time that her voice of doubt wonders if she could even be capable of harnessing that sort of thing. ]
Starlight? Is that a material that you've seen around here?
no subject
Not quite. But I can show you. Follow me?
[ if she consents, he'll take to a small area where a basin of water resides. there, caught within the water, is starlight. ]
If you can contain but a little of this in crystal, it should suffice.
no subject
The starlight is stunning, as expected. She peers down examining it in wonder. ]
I'd love to work with starlight but - [ A small furrow appears between her brow. ] I think you'd underestimating my abilities to catch something like that. Is that even possible outside of the Horizon?
no subject
That is a fair point. I could probably cobble together a weaker version of it, in time.
no subject
[ The sheepishness doesn't go unnoticed and she's quick to reassure him. ]
If there's anyone that could do that though, I'm sure it's you. And if you do, I'd love to be able to try and use it in a necklace. In fact, I could make you a necklace or pendant in whatever shape you wanted if you were able to do that!

[ but it's testament of how comfortable he is with hilda that he simply forgets the divide. somehow, he finds that reassuring. that the gap is not as large as he always assumed it would be. ]
no subject
[ And she knows all too well the pressures that expectations can put on people. ]
Is this something that only your people were capable of doing?
no subject
Not all of us. Though we all possess a love for starlight, we do not always succeed in capturing it well. We try our best though.
no subject
[ Teasingly she gives Elrond a nudge. ]
Don't you either catch it or you don't? Does it ever go out? The starlight I mean.
sorry for the lateness!
I don't think it ever will, so long as you are wiling to believe in its light.
[ believe in his father. but that's too much to share, even now. ]
no worries!
That's so sweet. I love that. Oh! Do you think we could try catching one of them here in the Horizon?
[ Because what better way to get your mind off the awful things you experienced than by trying to catch some falling stars? ]
no subject
[ this place so devoid of it. he wonders if that is deliberate. on his part or the nature of the worlds they create. elrond looks around and grabs a small silver dish. ]
Here. Collect some water and find a star that is fixed upon you.
no subject
Finding one that she thinks fits the bill (it looks like a star so it must work right?) she casts a glance towards Elrond. ]
Okay, what's next?
no subject
no subject
Patience had never been her strong suit. Was she meant to wait for the star to fall? There's no way she could actually scoop it into the dish, right? ]
Do I have to say something to make this happen? Like it's some sort of spell or something?
