[ his brow furrows for a moment. ]

I do not know if I am as good as you claim. I merely do my best through my actions and words. But surely, the passage of time has little to do with it?

Better than my own. I’ve seen too much in my lifetime to give the benefit. Your belief is unlike what I’ve encountered. Peace isn’t meant for people like me.

{ his pensive gaze says he might consider challenging it in abraxas. }

[ that came off quite strong and he seems a bit startled by it. something about the tone reminds him a little of galadriel. you have not seen what I have seen. and it is easy to lean on such things — the memories, the pain, the lingering.

but elrond has seen his share too. burning shores, empty caves. forgotten family. ]

Even the most meagre of beliefs can change the course of history. I believe you can change yours.

[mobezon]

{ there's irony to his sharp tone when he speaks, one that has soften. }

That means a lot. It's the first time I might think it possible.

{ even with the blood on his hands, the hurt he's caused. it could be the experience they've had endured together. in the darkness, they were all equals. there was a point when he truly believed that with his maker. maybe it's about time he tried again. it's all sort of twisted, honestly. there's quietude in his silence as glances up to the starlit sky. }

[ elrond smiles, boyishly pleased. ]

Belief is a good place to start, at least.

[mobezon]

{ there's a pause as he touches the bark of the tree. to think such simplicity can be reached, and with it he finally asks. }

It is. How have you been fairing with everything post?

[politicians]

Well enough. As one can.

[ homesick, desperately so. which is strange, when you never had a real home. elrond's roots are ethereal, legend. but they are not in stone or tree. ]

Even the long-lived must take the day as it comes.

[mobezon]

Right. I've only been here a few months and I've begun to wonder if I'll be sent home at anytime. Can't tell if it'll be a lasting sentiment. I don't think I asked. How long have you been here?

{ the thought of going back home is a complicated one, or at least to where he left. the change had been needed for louis, even if it's still evolving. }

[politicians]

[ elrond takes a moment to calculate it. ]

Only a few months. Not enough for a full year. And certainly not long enough to leave a strong impression.

[mobezon]

I considered it, making an impression. I put myself up for a nomination as a representative of Solvunn.

{ boldly, since he’s new. it’s also an indication he is accepting his circumstances. he begins to fiddle with the blades of grass near his leg. }

Back home I wasn’t much for holding office. My existence was political in itself, and my means of trying to protect my people were less than desirable. I want to do something now that I am offered an opportunity, in a better way.

[politicians]

[ elrond brightens. ]

I did the same for Thorne. Perhaps fortune will favor us both.

[ though he wonders. ]

What do you mean by a political existence?

[mobezon]

You do seem like you have more experience than me.

{ he considers he'd made a good decision there. louis sucks in some air over the following. }

In the time I was born, I was considered a taint for the color of my skin. I am black, but I am also creole. It means even if I have mixed blood, I'd always be seen as one over the other. I had to be careful with any public opinion when we were segregated by what was in our ancestral blood. The law hadn't been on my side those days, and any act could be seen as a rebellion against. I quickly learned I had to be careful.

[politicians]

[ ah. for a moment, elrond seems a little taken aback. because it feels startlingly familiar. he hesitates for a moment before responding. ]

Having mixed blood can be quite the burden. But also an accomplishment, to exist in the world.

[mobezon]

{ once again louis finds the silence. this time he recognizes it for what it is. a reflection. instead of looking away from it, he keeps his gaze on elrond. }

I've only ever heard another mixed man speak it like that.

{ the boldness in his statement isn't meant to pry. }

I still needed to hear it after all this time. To exist.

[politicians]

[ elrond folds his arms together for a moment. it's not a secret. not to any elf. but it is less known among the people here. and that is very deliberate on elrond's part. it seemed easier to play the politics of an elf. ]

That does not surprise me. Comfort can be scant when you seek to understand your own identity.

[ a brief pause as he looks back at louis. ]

Your instincts do you well. I am Peredhel. A union between elf and men.

[mobezon]

Do you feel acceptance from either side?

{ his gaze is unwavering. he knows it's an even bolder question to ask. all that's prominent is that elrond can't hide his ears and features as much as louis can with his. both his human life and vampire one have a commonality where he feels at odds.

who is the elf behind the politics weighs on him under the starlit sky. louis finds he wants to chip away and find out even if it might take time. }

[ ah. that is the question and elrond levels a long look at louis for a moment before he answers. ]

I am an elf. But the history — my lineage — is fraught.

[mobezon]

Seems like you have much to be proud of, despite the fraught.

{ maybe it's wishful thinking on his behalf, or that his gloom lends to the occasional hope underneath it all. }

Now here we are. An elf and a vampire.

[ he hums. ]

A strange union, for sure.

Hopefully not an unpleasant one.

Most certainly not.

[ he smiles at that. ]

As I am fond of yours.

Everything in the Horizon seems real, but I'd like to see you outside of it if you're amendable.

{ which is to say he's alluding to nocwich or if their paths are able to cross in person, considering the borders are close off beyond their own. there's something grounding about trying to meet up with someone as if he were back in his days trying to socialize freely in an olden time, of which settles into his smile. }

Since time is odd to people like us.

[ he should make more use of nocwich now that it has opened up properly for thorne residents. ]
