Who: wanda and others When: april & may Where: solvunn, horizon What: catch-all for the month, closed and open prompts within. Warnings: none at the moment, will mark as needed.
There is something meditative about it, isn't there?
[Not that Viktor is much of a gardener, but he likes houseplants so he sees the appeal. He waits a moment, then follows her to the bench, inviting himself to sit. The dog follows, and Viktor leans forward to continue scratching behind her ears. It makes sense that she belongs to Matt, though Viktor isn't going to object to her company.]
Things are better, yes. [But he'd gone more or less directly from his procedure into a month of recovery, and then the kidnappings began. ] I feel as though I finally have time to breathe.
[as viktor leans forward, wanda leans back. she enjoys mary's company more than others might, so viktor can definitely make the most of it right now. she didn't hear any bad news from jayce, so it all means that things must have definitely gone well.
after viktor had messaged her about the intent of the procedure he was going to undergo, she certainly waited for news with baited breath.
but then — the kidnappings and everything else...]
Jayce must be very happy, too.
[a light smile.]
I suppose now you can focus on so many other new things.
[Viktor smiles a little--tired, but sincere. Given his new, no-longer-dying status, the two of them have had to recalibrate a few things, but all for the better. He supposes he doesn't need to say that everything went well, because he's here and she's already guessed it.]
Now that everyone's back safely, yes. I have a few projects in mind.
[she is sure more will come to mind soon enough. she turns to face him.]
Jayce mentioned you were both working on something to help Matt read things a lot easier. I know you'll both say you don't need payment for it, it's unfair he has to deal with being unable to just do what he wants because of being blind, but... if you would like anything from Solvunn, or any help with anything related to magic, just let me know. I'll owe you both.
[He offers a shrug to indicate he will neither confirm nor deny how many projects is "just a few". She knows he likes to keep busy, and without all of his time spent working on a way to stay alive, he's most certainly going to increase his output.
Starting with one of the projects she describes, something that he had to put on hold but is now very close to finishing. He shakes his head, refusing the discussion of payment.]
I know what it's like to navigate a world that isn't designed for you. I can't, in good conscience, take any payment for this, though it's kind of you to offer.
[and matt's religious. so, in good conscience, it's not like he'll feel he is allowed to have something for free. wanda makes a bit of a face, because she isn't sure she can really rebuke that.
not at the moment, anyway.]
My offer stands regardless. You never know when you'll need to call in a favor.
[even if said favor is not under the law of quid pro quo.]
How are things with Jayce?
[clearly good, given that viktor is alive. but, you know, friendly small talk.]
[He might cash in, eventually, and it's good to know the option is there, but for now Viktor will insist they owe him nothing for this. He's sure Jayce will agree, too.
And, speaking of--]
They are-- [He has to think for a moment, though it's not a bad pause. There's a small smile on his face.] --good. Different. We're reevaluating some things, now that I'm recovered.
[wanda echoes, looking at him curiously for a moment. reevaluating sounds like a scary word, though wanda is certain that if it were something bad, he certainly would not be sounding so calm and, well, not-bad; he wouldn’t be smiling, she figures.]
Can I ask what kind of things you are reevaluating?
[such a scientist thing to say…
but she’s genuinely curious. both jayce and viktor are good friends of her.]
[In case she was wondering. He's aware that he's being a little clinical--a little scientific--but that's mostly because he's still not sure how he wants to talk about it. The future that Jayce has laid out for them is so far beyond the realm of what he imagined for himself that it's hard to articulate.
But it's not bad. The opposite.]
Our future, now that I have one. What it looks like, together.
[there is certainty in viktor's tone, of their having a 'good-different' reevaluation of where they stand.
certainty, indeed, such an important factor in life. one that many take for granted. with viktor's health renewed, a series of options have definitely opened up for himself and for jayce.
and, considering the operation being a success—]
I've been meaning to ask.
[—it would make sense, wouldn't it? she hedges over her question, not so much worried about how it will be received but maybe unsure on how she feels about hearing it from others.]
Are you both still thinking of going back to your world?
[It's a fair question, though he's not sure he's given an indication one way or another, when it comes to whether he wants to go home. The answer is complicated.]
I'd like to, someday.
[There's too much he's left unfinished, and promises he needs to keep. Viktor, however, is realistic about the fact that puzzling out the summoning ritual is going to take time, and without solving the additional problem of keeping their memories, it may not be feasible. He has to come to terms with that, one way or another.]
Jayce thinks differently. He sees a life here for us, one we couldn't have back home.
